Job Description:

What’s the role 

We are looking for a dynamic, self-motivated individual to join the Contract Operations Team at Shell Energy Solutions, a growing energy company located in Houston, Texas. The individual selected for this position must be a self-starter, detail oriented, personable, positive, and resourceful. The Contract Advisor will directly collaborate with Legal team members, Regulatory, IT, Marketing, Sales,

Supply, Credit, and other cross-functional teams to provide comprehensive contractual support to a growing business with respect to a wide category of in-house and third-party contracts.  

Reporting into the Contracts Team Lead Energy Houston, this hybrid role requires a dedicated, analytical, and responsible individual with the ability to perform well under pressure and with a sense of urgency. 

 

Accountabilities: 

  • Draft, review, and redline third-party agreements such as MSAs, NDAs, SaaS/ IT, Marketing, Broker, RECs, and other agreements as needed  

  • Develop contract templates and generate tailored agreements based on templates, including amendments and terminations  

  • Identify legal risks, sensitivities, and potential problems and propose constructive, commercially realistic solutions to business units and senior management  

  • Develop and perform strategic and periodic reviews to track contract compliance, spend comparisons, and other KPIs meaningful to the business  

  • Participate in complex legal matters and projects and deliver timely and quality contract negotiation services to internal customers with moderate to little supervision  

  • Serve as a lead resource for internal partners on specific projects and initiatives and participate as the department lead on cross-functional project teams  

  • Track expiration dates associated with contracts, communicate with the business units, and administer termination and renewal processes  

  • Assist as needed in litigation management including, responses, and document production  

  • Provide leadership, guidance, and training as needed to other team members 

  • Maintain an accurate audit file for each contract and associated documents/correspondence  

  • Contribute to the design, implementation, and administration of Shell Energy’s contract lifecycle management system  

  • Exercise discretion and judgment and prioritize requests from multiple departments  

  • Regularly work with sensitive and confidential information  

  • Act independently to determine methods and procedures on new assignments  

  • Assist with special projects and other duties as needed  

 

What you bring  

 

  • Must have legal authorization to work in the US on a full-time basis for anyone other than current employer 

  • Undergraduate or higher-level degree required 

  • 7+ years of work experience in contracts and procurement management required 

  • 5+ years of deep experience with highly complex agreements and negotiation  

  • Experience with a retail energy provider strongly preferred  

  • Certificate from accredited paralegal training program preferred  

  • Leadership experience with exceptional coaching and development skills  

  • Experience with DocuSign CLM platform a strong plus  

  • Excellent interpersonal, verbal and written communication skills, for creating and maintaining effective working relationships with senior management, legal counsel, counterparties, and others as needed  

  • Analytical mindset, demonstrated ability to problem solve and create practical solutions to overcome problems and mitigate risks  

  • Comfortable working in a target-driven and fast-changing environment, and able to respond to changing business needs  

  • Leadership mentality with the ability to lead by example and capacity to influence  

  • Proficient use of Microsoft Office programs, including strong Word, Outlook and Excel skills  

  • Excellent analytical, organization and time management skills, with the ability to maintain a strict level of attention to detail and prioritize time spent on particular matters by value and risk  

  • Ability to work well within a team environment and demonstratea vested interest in team goals and objectives 

  • Self-motivated with a learner mindset and the desire to consistently improve performance 

  • Ability to meet deadlines, learn quickly and demonstrate effective problem solving and follow-up skills  

  • Positive attitude and a willingness to tackle and complete those things that are unfamiliar

What we offer 

 

The base salary range for this position is $103,000 - $155,000 per year Individual pay will be based on various factors, such as relevant work experience, education, certifications, skill level, seniority, and internal equity. 

 

For regular full-time or regular part-time employees of the Company (participating companies as listed in the Summary Plan Description), insurance coverage options include medical, dental, vision coverage, life Insurance, Business Travel Accident Insurance, and Occupational Accidental Death Benefit programs. Employees also participate in a company pension plan and a 401(k) plan. Paid leave includes up to 6 weeks of paid vacation time, up to 11 paid holidays, and parental leave offering 16 weeks of paid leave for birthing parents, and 8 weeks of paid leave for non-birthing parents. 

 

Additionally, employees are eligible for short-term disability leave for up to 26 weeks at 100% or 50% of base pay as well as Long-Term Disability insurance.
