What’s the role
We are looking for a highly motivated individual with a genuine interest in energy, technology, and a passion to deliver products for a growing company. The Legal/Senior Legal Counsel is responsible for facilitating all legal aspects of the Shell Energy Solutions B2B business. Performs essential daily tasks to support B2B commodity, demand response and solution sales activities.
Reporting into the AGC, Shell Energy Americas, the role requires self-motivated, dedicated, and responsible individual with the ability to perform well under pressure.
Accountabilities:
Draft, review and negotiate all types of commercial contracts (including commercial sales of electricity, vendor, open records requests, demand response and broker agreements) and related documents
Draft, review and negotiate renewable energy credit (REC) and carbon offset contracts for B2B customers
Draft and negotiate contracts and RFPs for commercial sales, asset and demand response businesses
Assist with litigation and manage outside counsel as needed
Support M&A activity as requested, including contract and legal due diligence and analysis
Coordinate with outside counsel as needed when jurisdiction-specific or specialized legal advice is required
Identify and communicate significant risks succinctly to other attorneys and senior management
Responsible for staying abreast of market terms and updating B2B contract provisions as appropriate
Provide legal support to other matters of Company on an as-needed basis
Employees in this job participate in complex legal matters and projects and deliver timely and quality legal services to clients with moderate supervision
Anticipates and guards against legal risks involving the organization
Train and provide guidance to colleagues to support the B2B side of this retail electricity supplier in deregulated electricity markets

What you bring
Must have legal authorization to work in the US on a full-time basis for anyone other than current employer
Bachelor's degree and Juris Doctor and ten (10) or more years of relevant legal experience with a retail electricity supplier (required)
10+years of experience working in deregulated electricity and/or gas markets including ERCOT, PJM, NYISO, NEISO, CAISO
Must be member in good standing of a state bar (Texas or any other state in the United States)
Five (5) or more years of sophisticated commercial and transactional legal experience in retail electricity (required)
Good communication skills, written and oral
Excellent analytical, organization and time management skills, with the ability to maintain a strict level of attention to detail
Ability to work well within a team environment and demonstrate a vested interest in team goals and objectives
Excellent interpersonal, verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to establish and maintain positive and effective working relationships
Self-motivated with the desire to consistently improve performance and gain further knowledge
Ability to meet deadlines, learn quickly and demonstrate effective problem solving and follow-up skills
Comply with company policies and procedure
This is a transition role effective through December 31, 2026
What we offer
The base salary range for this position is $178,000 - $266,000 per year. Individual pay will be based on various factors, such as relevant work experience, education, certifications, skill level, seniority, and internal equity.
For regular full-time or regular part-time employees of the Company (participating companies as listed in the Summary Plan Description), insurance coverage options include medical, dental, vision coverage, life Insurance, Business Travel Accident Insurance, and Occupational Accidental Death Benefit programs. Employees also participate in a company pension plan and a 401(k) plan. Paid leave includes up to 6 weeks of paid vacation time, up to 11 paid holidays, and parental leave offering 16 weeks of paid leave for birthing parents, and 8 weeks of paid leave for non-birthing parents.
Additionally, employees are eligible for short-term disability leave for up to 26 weeks at 100% or 50% of base pay as well as Long-Term Disability insurance. Shell also offers other compensation such financial reimbursement for adoption, wellness, education, and personal learning expenses, and some roles are eligible for discretionary long-term incentives. For interns, eligible benefits include medical, dental, and vision coverage, life insurance, Business Travel Accident Insurance, and Occupational Accidental Death Benefit programs; participation in a 401(k) plan; and paid leave for up to 11 paid holidays.
