What’s the role
The Demand Response Automation Lead is responsible for planning and successfully coordinating activities between Origination and Operations for a growing assets and demand response portfolio. This role supports market and product expansion across North America and serves as the primary point of contact for inbound customer needs, ensuring a high level of customer satisfaction.
Reporting into the Demand Response Manager, the role requires self-motivated, dedicated and responsible individual with the ability to perform well under pressure.
Accountabilities:
Responsible for all aspects of asset management and demand response portfolio, including:
Support sales opportunities in conjunction with internal sales personnel, outside brokers and consultants, and direct engagement with customers
Lead and initiate automation for asset management and demand response portfolio and customer
Accurate evaluation of demand response opportunities and effective presentation of those opportunities and customers fully understand their roles and obligations
Assist as necessary to ensure any technical installation is completed on time and to the satisfaction of the customer
Ensure customers are properly registered and enrolled
Stay informed of market rules impacting demand response and help shape regulatory outcomes
Develop flexible, customer-facing applications like web portals for business-critical data transfer, custom reporting and analytics, and 24-7 operations support
Contribute to our growing set of internal tools for process automation, data analysis, and operations excellence that can be iterated upon as market data changes, adapted to suit the team's changing needs, and documented clearly for other developers to support and improve
Work with IT to streamline our internal and external data and intelligence processes by working on the API and applications levels to test and continuously integrate solutions according to best engineering practices
Collaborate with our developers, project management teams, and internal stakeholders within a broad scope encompassing customer service and experience, back-office process automation, and operational efficiency and accuracy; coordinate as a strategic liaison for our team with other groups in the company that develop similar tools or leverage common technologies
Improve our existing demand response solutions including settlements automation, program-specific data management, and real-time data monitoring and associated responses for daily operations
Understand the subtleties of translating and presenting the results of sophisticated data analysis and models in such a way that benefits and can easily be understood by colleagues and customers without in-depth knowledge of advanced statistics or data science
Strategically, work with IT to design adaptable solutions that suit our increasingly heterogenous portfolio of assets, changing market programs and regulations, and long-term goals of extending our reach into nationwide grids

What you bring
Must have legal authorization to work in the US on a full-time basis for anyone other than current employer
Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Economics, Electrical Engineering, or Mechanical Engineering; advanced degree preferred
At least 3 years of experience in retail and/or wholesale energy, with a minimum of 2 years of experience working across multiple demand response markets
Ability to create shared vision, inspire collaboration, and drive change with momentum
Analytical mindset, demonstrate ability to problem solve and create practical solutions to overcome problems and mitigate risks
Comfortable working in a target-driven and fast-changing environment, and able to respond to changing business needs
Excellent attention to detail
Proficient use of Microsoft Office programs including Word, Outlook and strong Excel skills. Experience working with ISO API, AWS, cross-platform and front-end development
Experience in C# / .NET, SQL and/or database management
Excellent analytical, organization and time management skills, with the ability to maintain a strict level of attention to detail
Ability to work well within a team environment and demonstrate a vested interest in team goals and objectives
Excellent interpersonal, verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to establish and maintain positive and effective working relationships
Self-motivated with the desire to consistently improve performance and gain further knowledge
Ability to meet deadlines, learn quickly and demonstrate effective problem solving and follow-up skills
Note: This role is a virtual position based in the US
What we offer
The base salary range for this position is $124,000 - $186,000 per year. As pay will be based on various factors, such as relevant work experience, education, certifications, skill level, seniority, and internal equity.
For regular full-time or regular part-time employees of the Company (participating companies as listed in the Summary Plan Description), insurance coverage options include medical, dental, vision coverage, life Insurance, Business Travel Accident Insurance, and Occupational Accidental Death Benefit programs. Employees also participate in a company pension plan and a 401(k) plan. Paid leave includes up to 6 weeks of paid vacation time, up to 11 paid holidays, and parental leave offering 16 weeks of paid leave for birthing parents, and 8 weeks of paid leave for non-birthing parents.
Additionally, employees are eligible for short-term disability leave for up to 26 weeks at 100% or 50% of base pay as well as Long-Term Disability insurance. Shell also offers other compensation such financial reimbursement for adoption, wellness, education, and personal learning expenses, and some roles are eligible for discretionary long-term incentives. For interns, eligible benefits include medical, dental, and vision coverage, life insurance, Business Travel Accident Insurance, and Occupational Accidental Death Benefit programs; participation in a 401(k) plan; and paid leave for up to 11 paid holidays.
