The Sr. Portfolio Manager is responsible for wholesale price and retail position management for regional power exposure. The candidate must have prior ERCOT, PJM, and NE ISOs position management experience. This role will collaborate with our Sales and Pricing teams to develop retail structured products that are valued by large commercial and industrial customers. The individual will serve as a subject matter expert in fundamental analysis and regulatory policy formation across specific ISOs. The role will be accountable for capturing retail gross margin and implementing optimization strategies to unlock additional profit opportunities or minimize losses.
Reporting to the B2B Portfolio Lead, this position requires a self-motivated, dedicated, and responsible professional with the ability to perform effectively under pressure.
Accountabilities:
Build and foster commercial relationships with wholesale bilateral counterparties
Manage book exposures within risk management limits and capture priced retail margins
Assist gross margin analytics team on revenue and cogs estimates to actuals for variance explanations and effective hedge testing
Forecast commodity cost curves for retail pricing, risk metrics and book revaluation
Schedule physical bilateral contracts and DAM activities with various ISOs
Enter wholesale trade in deal capture system and validate deal entry accuracy
Provide SME market fundamental and policy formation commentary for sales presentations and customer interaction
Collaborate with load forecasting team to understand daily load forecast changes, model bias and approve load forecast adjustments for position management
Backup risk management and commodity price forecasting for other ISOs as needed
What you bring
Must have legal authorization to work in the US on a full-time basis for anyone other than current employer
Bachelor’s degree, Master, or Advanced Degree Preferred
At least 4 years’ experience in a trading/commercial role or risk management capacity
Comfortable working in a target driven and fast-paced environment
Strong analytical and critical thinking skills; must be able to provide timely and accurate data analysis
Strong technical and data analysis skills in PowerBI, SQL and VBA preferred
Strong business writing skills and experience developing communication in various formats
Learner mindset and eye for continuous improvement needs.
Excellent organization and time management skills, with the ability to maintain a strict level of attention to detail
Ability to work well within a team environment and demonstrate a personal stake in aligned team goals and objectives
Excellent interpersonal and verbal communication skills, with the ability to establish and maintain positive and effective working relationships.
Self-motivated with the desire and curiosity to consistently improve performance and gain further knowledge
Ability to meet deadlines, learn quickly, and demonstrate effective problem-solving and follow-up skills
Comply with company policies and procedures
What we offer
The base salary range for this position is $178,000 – $266,000 per year. As Individual pay will be based on various factors, such as relevant work experience, education, certifications, skill level, seniority, and internal equity.
For regular full-time or regular part-time employees of the Company (participating companies as listed in the Summary Plan Description), insurance coverage options include medical, dental, vision coverage, life Insurance, Business Travel Accident Insurance, and Occupational Accidental Death Benefit programs. Employees also participate in a company pension plan and a 401(k) plan. Paid leave includes up to 6 weeks of paid vacation time, up to 11 paid holidays, and parental leave offering 16 weeks of paid leave for birthing parents, and 8 weeks of paid leave for non-birthing parents.
Additionally, employees are eligible for short-term disability leave for up to 26 weeks at 100% or 50% of base pay as well as Long-Term Disability insurance. Shell also offers other compensation such financial reimbursement for adoption, wellness, education, and personal learning expenses, and some roles are eligible for discretionary long-term incentives. For interns, eligible benefits include medical, dental, and vision coverage, life insurance, Business Travel Accident Insurance, and Occupational Accidental Death Benefit programs; participation in a 401(k) plan; and paid leave for up to 11 paid holidays.
