What to Expect?

The Manufacturing Engineer is responsible for improving and optimizing manufacturing processes, equipment, and systems to enhance safety, quality, efficiency, and reliability at Suncoast. This role supports continuous improvement efforts through project management, change control, and collaboration with production and maintenance teams. Key responsibilities include developing procedures and documentation, supporting automation and testing, and identifying opportunities to reduce waste, downtime, and cost. The Manufacturing Engineer also works closely with production leaders to address equipment issues, improve operating methods, and implement Lean Manufacturing and 5S+ practices.

On a daily basis our Manufacturing Engineer:

  • Fully implement the production tracking system (Vorne) across all departments and equipment to monitor and track efficiency, OEE, standards with visual daily management that automatically update.

  • Create and monitor key performance indicators (KPIs) and use data-driven analysis to drive decision-making and process improvements.

  • Apply project management skills to plan, schedule, budget, and execute engineering projects, ensuring cost control and feasibility.

  • Develop engineering drawings, calculations, and technical specifications for machining, electrical systems, layouts, elevations, and plant equipment for both new and existing projects.

  • Use technical expertise to collaborate with production and maintenance teams to troubleshoot, engineer, modify, and optimize mechanical and electrical systems and machinery throughout the plant.

  • Design and conduct process tests using DOE, statistical methods, hypothesis testing, and equipment validation to support process improvement.

  • Lead and support continuous improvement initiatives focused on Lean Manufacturing, 5S+, value stream mapping (VPN), cycle time reduction, zero-based budgeting (ZBB), benchmarking, process variable regression, waste reduction, and Kaizen events.

  • Coordinate and lead cross-functional activities with production and maintenance teams to drive performance and efficiency.

  • Support quality engineering functions including procedure development, audits, product release approvals, and resolution of customer complaints.

  • Assist with team leadership, safety initiatives, and root cause analysis (RCA) for process and equipment issues.

  • Coordinate with purchasing department to specify and source appropriate materials, parts, and equipment.

  • Assist in training production personnel on process changes, operating procedures, and safety practices.

  • Analyze and improve manufacturing processes to enhance efficiency, safety, and product quality.

  • Develop and maintain technical documentation including work instructions, procedures, specifications, and automation logic.                                                                                                                                                                                                            

  • Bring energy and adaptability to a fast-paced manufacturing environment, maintaining performance amid changing priorities and tasks.

  • Perform other duties and responsibilities as assigned to support operational goals.

What You Will Need:

  • Engineering Degree or equal, Masters Engineering degree a plus.

  • 10 Years’ Experience in a Manufacturing Environment. 

  • Green Belt Certification minimum, Black belt certification a plus.

  • Technical communication skills, engineering calculation, & mechanical aptitude.

  • Extremely well organized with an ability to prioritize work with a keen eye for detail.

  • Deep understanding of advanced industrial math, industrial concepts, proficient with MS Office suite, and AS400 (J.D. Edwards).
