Job Title: Skilled Refrigeration Maintenance Technician Level 1

Department: Warehouse

FLSA: Non-Medical

General Function

Under general supervision performs preventative and corrective maintenance on process equipment and support systems for standard refrigeration systems, as well as installation of new equipment. Maintains equipment, parts and supplies inventories. Under general supervision the technician repairs industrial compressors, pumps, motors, valves and campus wide fire systems. Performs routine maintenance on various types of warehouse equipment in accordance with OSHA Standards.

Positions that Report to you: None

Primary Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Reports to work when scheduled and on time. Adheres to company policies and departmental guidelines.

  • Provide coverage for 2nd, 3rd, and weekend 1st shifts during scheduled vacations, ensuring seamless operations and continuity.

  • Troubleshoots and tests equipment performance using instruments such as multi-meters and recommends corrective action.

  • Under general supervision performs preventative and corrective maintenance on Ammonia refrigeration, HVAC, mechanical and electrical systems for PDI campus. Performs general repairs of industrial compressors, boilers, pumps, motors, valves, and campus wide security and fire systems.

  • Maintains tools, equipment, and parts in good condition and uses tools and equipment carefully as instructed.

  • Maintains accurate preventive maintenance records.

  • Under general supervision performs service and repair on building facility including electrical repairs and updating of current building.

  • facilities. Assists with routine maintenance of lighting, plumbing, water softeners, racking, and truck wash facility.

  • Safely performs duties such as bollard and steelwork, spring replacement and masonry. Performs preventative maintenance and general repairs on building and equipment as assigned.

  • Assists with new and existing building construction working with general contractor as needed.

  • Provides on-call support to maintenance department as needed. Rotating “on-call” not required for flex position.

  • Performs routine maintenance on various types of warehouse equipment in accordance with OSHA Standards.

  • Keeps work area clean, organized, and performs housekeeping duties as required.

  • Serves as member of the HAZMAT Team.

Knowledge, Skills, Abilities, and Worker Characteristics:

  • Good general knowledge of general refrigeration practices.

  • Good understanding of OSHA regulations and procedures and building codes.

  • Knowledge of preventative maintenance of equipment. Proficient use of testing equipment.

  • Ability to troubleshoot and diagnose down to the component level on all refrigeration equipment.

  • General computer knowledge.

  • Mathematical and documentation skills.

  • Ability to work with hands in mechanically oriented situations.

  • Ability to follow verbal and written instructions.

  • Powered industrial equipment license required.

  • Must be knowledgeable of hydraulic and pneumatic systems.

  • Good communication and interpersonal skills to work in a team environment.

Education and Experience:

  • High school education or equivalent preferred. Trade school/vocational schooling in related area preferred. PLC certification, HAZMAT/EPA certification and experience preferred or will train. Universal HVAC license, Ammonia Certification or equivalent experience preferred.

  • 2 years direct related experience in Refrigeration and/or Maintenance preferred.

Physical Requirements:

  • Operation of powered industrial equipment.

  • Ability to perform physical requirements exerting 50 to 100 pounds of force occasionally, and/or 25 to 50 pounds of force frequently, and/or 10 to 20 pounds of force constantly.

  • Must be able to work at heights in excess of 50 ft. and be able to access elevated platforms and catwalk.

  • Must be able to climb ladders and stairs.

  • Must be able to tolerate working environment of -20 degrees Fahrenheit and outside ambient temperatures (including heat, cold, and precipitation).

  • Frequently required to stand, walk, push, pull reach with hands and arms, stoop, kneel, crouch, bend, carry, drive, and visual acuity.

  • Must be able to use hand and power tools.

  • Able to pass a physical and respiratory exam.

Working Conditions:

Exposure to external weather conditions, heights, roofs, warehouse temperatures (35° and -20°) and conditions, office, shop conditions, high noise levels, hazardous materials.

Equipment Used to Perform Job:

Must provide own hand tools. PDI will provide uniforms coat, power tools, electric and diagnostic instruments, refrigeration tools and equipment, oxy-acetylene torch, general cleaning supplies and utensils, hard hat, safety glasses with adequate side coverage, goggles, face shield, leather gloves, vinyl, rubber or butyl gloves, foam ear plugs. Hazmat Team equipment, SCBA, Level A suit, and respirator. $350 annual tool allowance.
