We are seeking experienced full-time Advanced Practice Providers specializing in Psychiatry to provide high-quality mental health services to patients throughout Charlotte and the surrounding communities. This position is occupied by board-certified Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioners (PMHNP-BC) and/or Physician Assistants (PA) specifically trained and proficient in the provision of psychiatric services under the supervision of psychiatrists within the Atrium Health Psychiatry Service Line.

The provider in this role will perform psychiatric evaluations, medication management, and ongoing mental health treatment for adult patients with acute and chronic psychiatric conditions. This may include, but is not limited to, patients diagnosed with depression, anxiety, ADHD, bipolar disorder, schizophrenia, and other mood and thought disorders.

Position Details
• Outpatient Behavioral Health  
• Full-Time; Monday – Friday, 8:00 a.m. – 5:00 p.m.  
• 36 patient contact hours weekly  
• No weekends, holidays, or call responsibilities  
• Teaching opportunities available with residents and/or APP Fellows  
• CME allowance of $2,500 plus 40 hours annually  
• Eligible for moonlighting opportunities, PTO, and Performance Incentive Bonuses up to 5%

Experience Required
• Graduation from an accredited Nurse Practitioner or Physician Assistant program  
• Current license to practice as an NP or PA in North Carolina; South Carolina licensure preferred or eligible  
• Current prescriptive privileges and DEA license required  
• BLS for Healthcare Provider from the American Heart Association required  
• Nurse Practitioners must hold a Master’s Degree or Doctorate in Nursing Practice and maintain board certification as a Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner (PMHNP-BC) from a nationally recognized certifying body  
• Physician Assistants must maintain certification through the National Commission on Certification of Physician Assistants (NCCPA); CAQ certification preferred  
• One or more years of Psychiatry or Behavioral Health experience preferred  
• Demonstrated ability to work in a fast-paced clinical environment with appropriate critical thinking and interpersonal skills  
• Ability to function effectively within a multidisciplinary behavioral health team

Job Summary
Behavioral Health APPs provide specialized psychiatric services in an outpatient setting, caring for patients with acute and chronic mental health conditions. Responsibilities include psychiatric evaluations, diagnosis, medication management, treatment planning, and ongoing patient care coordination.

Essential Functions
• Perform comprehensive psychiatric evaluations and mental health assessments  
• Diagnose and manage acute and chronic psychiatric conditions  
• Develop and implement individualized treatment plans  
• Prescribe and manage psychiatric medications appropriately  
• Monitor patient progress and modify treatment plans as clinically indicated  
• Document all patient encounters, assessments, and interventions accurately within the medical record  
• Collaborate with psychiatrists, therapists, nursing staff, and other multidisciplinary team members regarding patient care  
• Provide patient and family education related to diagnoses, medications, treatment plans, and community resources  
• Participate in departmental meetings, quality initiatives, and policy development as requested  
• Serve as a patient advocate for the behavioral health population served

Physical Requirements

• Ability to communicate effectively with patients, families, and healthcare team members  
• Must possess intact senses of sight, hearing, touch, and finger dexterity  
• Must speak English fluently and clearly  
• Must be able to react appropriately and professionally in stressful or crisis situations
