About the role

At COUNTRY Financial, our Vice President & Chief Life Health Annuity Actuary oversees the actuarial functions and serves as appointed actuary of the life insurance companies of COUNTRY Financial. Actuarial functions include pricing, product management, product development, reinsurance administration, valuation, financial modeling, experience studies, and implementation support for life/health/annuity products. Serves as key member of the leadership team for the life company and financial services.

How does this role make an impact?

1. Serve as Appointed Actuary for COUNTRY life insurance companies; may serve as Illustration Actuary.
2. Oversee asset adequacy testing and reserve sufficiency testing, including ensuring appropriate model risk management and controls.
3. Provide vision and strategy to drive development and management of life/health/annuity products.
4. Maintain a contemporary actuarial function and structure. Lead recruiting, training, and development of staff, primarily actuaries.

5. Ensure accurate valuation processes and effective controls.
6. Provide insight and direction to annual budgeting process.
7. Oversee the actuarial aspects of company financial reporting.
8. Effectively communicate with various audiences, including agency force, company leadership, Board of Directors, regulators, external auditors, business partners and rating agencies.
9. Craft the annual AM Best narrative and lead the presentation/discussion with analysts for the life insurance group.
10. Drive difficult decisions and conversations through influence to maintain appropriate balance among financial strength, rating, competitiveness and customer satisfaction.
11. Collaborate closely with Enterprise Risk Management area on ALM and risk management.
12. Maintains overall fiscal responsibility for assigned divisions, including approving operating budgets and monitoring expenditures for overall cost containment.
13. Oversees the implementation and maintenance of disaster recovery plans and activities in assigned areas. Maintains current contact information for all employees in applicable areas and communicates with non-recovery employees during a disaster.
14. Protects the privacy of our clients’ data in the performance of job duties and operational activities.
15. Follows corporate policy and procedures related to the access, use, distribution, protection, and destruction of client and company confidential data.
16. Performs special projects and other related work as required or requested.

Do you have what we're looking for?

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Previous experience as Appointed Actuary or provided significant support to Appointed Actuary

Required Qualifications:

  • Typically Requires:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Actuarial Science or related field and at least 15 years of actuarial experience

  • At least 10 years of management experience

  • Fellow of Society of Actuaries

  • Member of American Academy of Actuaries

  • Qualified to sign life reserve opinion statement of actuarial opinion

Physical Requirements:

  • Normal office environment.                    

  • Work may extend beyond normal business hours as business needs dictate.

Base Pay Range:

$252,000-$346,500

The base pay range represents the typical range of potential salary offers for candidates hired. Factors used to determine your actual salary include your specific skills, qualifications and experience.

Incentive Pay:

In addition to base salary, this position is eligible for both a Short-Term Incentive plan and a Long-Term Incentive plan.
