Schedules all surgical procedures using the scheduling information system in conjunction with a designated block grid. This allows for an organized approach to house all cases to be done in a specific time frame.

Education
Preferred: High school diploma


Experience
Required: Previous experience in a related field


Knowledge/Skills/Abilities
Excellent computer skills
Advanced knowledge of medical terminology, with an emphasis on surgical terms
Excellent verbal/communication skills, particularly in telephone communication
Ability to work with minimal supervision.

JOB RESPONSIBILITIES
Essential

Schedules all elective surgical procedures via communication with the physician's offices, using scheduling information system.

Verifies surgical caseload with each physician's office one day prior to the scheduled date. Records all information regarding case on surgical schedule.

Inputs all surgical case information into the computer with 90% accuracy. Maintains awareness of potential scheduling conflicts: equipment, specialty rooms, staff, and instrumentation.

Communicates potential schedule demands/problems to the Charge Nurse, Materials Coordinator, and/or Perioperative Nurse Manager. Communicates staffing requests. Communicates all physician issues or complaints to Perioperative Nurse Manager.

Prints the next day surgical schedule and distributes to the Anesthesia office and Charge Nurse in an appointed timeline.

Maintains records and files pertinent to the scheduling of elective surgical procedures. Maintains file of previous schedules for three months, verifying anesthesia choices and physician office confirmations.

Audits and verifies post-operative surgical charges.

Performs all position responsibilities maintaining a courteous and receptive atmosphere for physicians, physician office staff, surgical services staff, and all other departments of the hospital.

Maintains current knowledge and skills.

Schedules and supervises the scheduling of pre-Anesthesia consult appointments.

Generates report summaries, month end statistical reports.

Communicates effectively and works cooperatively with Patient Access Services, Anesthesia Services, and MD offices to schedule patients accurately.

Proactively monitors surgery schedule to enhance utilization by modifying bookings and soliciting new cases when the schedule has availability.

Communicates effectively with sales and supply representatives the need for specialty equipment, instrumentation, and supplies for scheduled procedures.

Continually demonstrates working knowledge of medical terminology, anatomy, and physiology as it applies to the scheduling of surgical procedures.



Additional

Demonstrates the knowledge and skills necessary to provide care and services appropriate to the population served on the assigned unit or work area.

Performs other duties as assigned.

Pay Range

$20.00 -$30.00
