License /Certification
Preferred: Eligible to obtain Certified Professional Credentialing Specialist (CPCS) and/or Certified Professional Medical Services Management (CPMSM).
Education
Preferred: Associate's degree
Experience
Required: A minimum of three years' experience in medical staff services or administrative role in a hospital setting.
Knowledge/Skills/Abilities
Knowledgeable of Medical Staff regulations and requirements as it pertains to TJC, CMS,CA Title 22, and Health System Medical Staff Bylaws, Rules and Regulations and Policy and Procedures.
Proficient in meeting management and providing administrative support.
Comfortable with navigating various forms of technology and software applications.
Communicates effectively and can articulate and escalate issues to the appropriate leader with a sense of urgency.
Ability to work independently and is highly attentive to detail
Strong critical thinking and multi-tasking skills.
Ability to maintain professionalism and confidentiality will all business related to the Medical Staff Services Department and related activity.
JOB RESPONSIBILITIES
Essential
Medical Staff Credentialing and Privileging: Initial Applications: Reappointments:
Credential Files: Responsible for ensuring that all information is accurate and current for all practitioners credentialed through credentialing software. Ensures current licensure, insurance, NPI, OIG, NPDB searches are verified in a timely manner. Responds to requests from other hospitals and healthcare organizations for verification of medical staff membership and clinical privileges for current and prior members of the Medical Staff and of the Specified Advanced Practice Provider Staff. Creates and maintains the national practitioner database (NPDB) utilizing continuous queries.
Clinical Privileges: Responsible for ensuring that all Medical Staff members & Specified Professionals have delineated clinical privileges and that hospital departments have access to these privilege delineations via the Intranet. Ensures that Intranet privileges are current. Processes requests for additional clinical privileges and for Medical Staff membership category changes. Updates privilege delineation forms in collaboration with the Medical Staff members. Works with the Medical Staff to facilitate development of competency criteria for individual clinical privileges. Responds to questions from various units of the hospital as to specific clinical privileges held by Medical Staff and Advanced Practice Providers. Process practitioner suspensions, deactivations and reactivations in concert with hospital departments. Oversees process for requesting temporary clinical privileges. Oversees proctoring of new practitioners or practitioners with new privileges.
Medical Staff Committee Meetings: Facilitates medical staff meetings, i.e., scheduling, booking rooms, ordering food, agenda, minutes and follow up. Prepares reports as necessary. Orients department and committee chairmen to their duties and responsibilities. Maintains a working knowledge of TJC and CMS/Title 22 regulations and Medical Staff Bylaws and Rules & Regulations. Provides regulatory information and other guidelines to members of committees as needed. Maintains a flexible schedule to meet medical staff meeting needs.

Demonstrates the knowledge and skills necessary to provide care and services appropriate to the population served on the assigned unit or work area.
Is available as a backup to the Medical Staff Department Leadership to assist hospital in trouble-shooting physician access issues.
Reports non-monetary compensation to Medical Staff members to Compliance Officer, in accordance with STARK II regulations.
Participates in the facilitation of AMION – ED Call Schedule.
Provides support to the Medical Staff Director and Medical Staff Leadership, as needed.
Pay Range
