Job Description
An HHS (Hospital Housekeeping Systems/Environmental Services) Trash Technician collects, transports, and disposes of medical waste, recycling, and general trash, ensuring compliance with health regulations to maintain a sanitary facility. Key duties include operating compactors, handling bio-hazardous materials, and cleaning, often requiring lifting 50-100 lbs.
Responsibilities
Key Responsibilities and Duties
- Waste Management: Collect and transport waste, including hazardous, bio-hazardous, and infectious materials, from patient rooms and departments to disposal areas.
- Safety Compliance: Adhere strictly to infection control, safety, and hazardous waste protocols (handling, sorting, and disposal).
- Equipment Operation: Safely operate trash compactors, dollies, carts, and other machinery.
- Cleaning & Maintenance: Maintain cleanliness of trash rooms, containers, and surrounding areas; perform additional housekeeping tasks as assigned.
- Safety Adherence: Identify hazards and wear appropriate Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) to avoid exposure to hazards
Required Qualifications & Skills
- Physical Ability: Ability to lift, push, pull, or carry trash containers weighing 50 to 100 pounds, and walk/stand for long periods.
- Communication: Ability to follow written and oral instructions in English.
- Experience: Previous housekeeping, custodial, or hospital facility maintenance experience is often preferred.
- Training: Knowledge of, or ability to learn, hospital cleaning procedures and waste management protocols.
