The Head of Senior Relationship Management (SRM) Canada is responsible for driving revenue growth across BMO Capital Markets’ institutional client base by originating cross‑asset opportunities at the investment decision and capital allocation level. The role focuses on deepening senior relationships with CIOs, Heads of Total Fund Management, and Cross‑Asset decision‑makers at Canada’s largest pensions, asset managers, and family offices, positioning BMO as a strategic partner in portfolio construction and risk management.

This role is explicitly origination‑led, working upstream of execution to identify large, structural portfolio shifts and mobilize GM and firm‑wide resources to deliver solutions.

Key Responsibilities

  • Senior Relationship Origination
    • Build and maintain trusted relationships with CIOs, Investment Committees, Heads of TFM, and Cross‑Asset leaders across priority institutional clients.
    • Act as the senior point of engagement for strategic portfolio‑level dialogue.
  • Idea‑Led Engagement
    • Lead client conversations with macro, cross‑asset, and portfolio construction ideas rather than product‑specific messaging.
    • Surface client objectives, constraints, and upcoming capital allocation decisions.
  • Cross‑Asset Opportunity Development
    • Originate and shape opportunities across Rates, FX, Commodities, and structured risk solutions.
    • Partner closely with sales, trading, structuring, research, and balance‑sheet teams to deliver firm‑wide solutions.
  • Revenue Growth
    • Drive incremental revenue through capture of large, structural mandates and increased share of wallet.
    • Maintain a clear pipeline of originated opportunities with measurable revenue outcomes.
  • Internal Leadership & Coordination
    • Act as a connector across GM and I&CB to ensure coordinated, senior‑level client coverage.
    • Provide strategic input into client prioritization and relationship strategy.

Experience

  • Requires 10+ years of progressive experience in relationship management, corporate banking, or commercial lending.
  • Ability to influence across internal stakeholders, including senior management, risk, finance, and product partners.
  • Strong communication skills to align diverse teams around complex transactions.
  • Up‑to‑date knowledge of macroeconomic trends, regulatory developments, and capital markets conditions.
  • Strong execution skills, ensuring deals progress efficiently from idea to close.

Education

  • Bachelor’s degree in Business, Finance, or Economics is required.
  • MBA, CFA, or equivalent professional designation is strongly preferred.

Technical Expertise

  • Demonstrated deep expertise in credit risk management, complex financial statement analysis, and advanced financial modeling.
  • Deep understanding of multiple asset classes (e.g., credit, rates, FX, equities, structured products, private markets).
  • Ability to time origination activity effectively based on market windows and client readiness.
  • Advanced understanding of credit risk, counterparty risk, market risk, and liquidity risk across products.
  • Ability to assess and articulate risk‑return trade‑offs within cross‑asset solutions.
  • Strong judgment in navigating risk limits, approvals, and governance processes.
  • Expertise in structuring bespoke, cross‑asset transactions that balance client needs, risk, capital usage, and profitability.
  • Ability to translate complex financial concepts into clear, actionable solutions for clients.
  • Strong collaboration with structuring, trading, credit, and legal teams to deliver executable outcomes.

Core Competencies

  • Proven negotiation capability, strong leadership presence, and advanced strategic thinking skills.
  • Strong commercial mindset with a focus on sustainable revenue generation.
  • Ability to think strategically about client portfolios, balance sheet efficiency, and long‑term franchise value.
  • Skilled at prioritizing opportunities based on strategic fit and return on capital.

Language Proficiency

  • Fluency in English is required.
  • French language proficiency is a strong asset
