Summary

The Payroll Supervisor is responsible for the accurate, timely, and compliant execution of payroll operations across the U.S. This role provides hands-on leadership of payroll processing, supports critical compensation events (including merit and bonus payouts), and ensures adherence to federal, state/provincial, and local regulations. This position plays a key role in maintaining payroll integrity, enhancing processes, and partnering closely with HR, Finance, and external vendors to deliver a seamless employee experience.

What You'll Do

  • Payroll Operations & Execution: Oversee end-to-end payroll processing for the U.S. ensuring accuracy, timeliness, and compliance with all applicable regulations. Review and validate payroll inputs including new hires, terminations, compensation changes, bonuses, and off-cycle payments. Lead payroll activities for key compensation cycles, including annual merit increases and incentive/bonus payouts. Ensure proper reconciliation of payroll data, including earnings, deductions, and tax withholdings. Manage payroll calendars, deadlines, and processing schedules
  • Compliance & Governance: Ensure compliance with federal, state, and local payroll laws and regulations. Maintain up-to-date knowledge of payroll legislation and regulatory changes. Support internal and external audits, including SOX controls where applicable. Ensure proper documentation and audit trails for all payroll transactions
  • Stakeholder Collaboration: Partner with HR Partners, Total Rewards, and Finance Teams to ensure alignment on pay-related activities. Collaborate with HRIS teams on data integrity, system updates, and process improvements. Manage relationships with external payroll vendors (e.g., ADP, Workday Payroll, Ceridian, Timekeeping Systems, etc.)
  • Team Leadership & Support: Provide day-to-day guidance and oversight to payroll team members (e.g., Payroll Specialist). Serve as an escalation point for payroll-related inquiries and issue resolution. Support training and development of team members to build payroll capability and continuity
  • Process Improvement & Transformation: Identify opportunities to improve payroll processes, controls, and efficiency. Support payroll-related projects, including system enhancements, integrations, and process standardization. Contribute to broader HR initiatives such as job architecture, compensation structure updates, and system implementations

What You Need

Education: Bachelors degree in Finance, Accounting or other related field.

Required Experience: Minimum 5 years of payroll processing experience including multi-state U.S. payroll; Preferred: 1–2 years of experience providing supervisory support.

Certifications: Certified Payroll Professional (CPP) or Fundamental Payroll Certification (FPC)

Travel: less than 10%

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities: Advanced knowledge of payroll laws and regulations (Federal, State, and Local); Proficiency in HRIS systems, particularly Workday; Strong analytical and problem-solving skills; Excellent attention to detail and accuracy; Leadership and team management capabilities; Strong communication and interpersonal skills; Knowledge of 401(k) administration and benefits management; Experience with payroll audits and compliance requirements; Ability to handle confidential information with discretion; Advanced Excel skills and reporting capabilities
