Responsibilities:

GENERAL PURPOSE:

In an outpatient setting, supports standards of care and providing consultation and expertise in the delivery of patient care. Supports activities at the service, nursing practice, and institutional level, and contributes to goal achievement through personal action and the facilitation of others. They participate in community and professional organizations, demonstrating commitment to the promotion of nursing's visibility and future. Provides expert patient care, serves as a resource, consults as requested, and communicates effectively within the unit and service. They also participate in the management of human resources, the development and evaluation of recruitment and retention strategies, and the monitoring of patient outcomes. May have responsibilities at the unit, program or service level and may assume an expanded role as assigned by leadership

Exciting and unique opportunity to develop the new role of a Transition to Practice Unit Coordinator within the medical/surgical service line to enhance the onboarding and orientation process for new nurses, under a NYS DOH awarded Grant, funded through September 30, 2026. The Transition to Practice Unit Coordinator will serve as a central resource and advocate for new graduate nurses during onboarding and orientation. They will lead bi-weekly evaluation meetings with the orientee, preceptor, and unit leadership to assess progress, address challenges, and ensure alignment on goals and expectations. TPU Coordinator will work closely with the Nurse Residency Program, Center for Nursing Professional Development (CNPD), Nursing Practice leadership, Nursing Orientation Coordinators, and Nursing Professional Development (NPD) Practitioners across the hospital to continuously improve the orientation process. Additionally, they will also partner with the Nurse Residency Program team to evaluate and enhance the program’s content and structure, ensuring it addresses the specific needs of medical/surgical new graduate nurses.

Qualifications: License to practice as a Registered Nurse in New York State, a BSN degree required. Recent experience in acute care nursing with expertise as a preceptor, educator, or leader required.
