Summary: 

Responsible for editing, headline-writing, article selection, coordinating with design/pagination hub, for print in particular, with emphasis on news. Works with all newsroom teams and other departments as necessary. Ensures that page production meets deadlines and the requirements of good page flow. Help ensure that reports on all platforms are accurate, clear, timely and effective.

Note: This position will required the individual to mainly work nights, but some days as staffing requires.

What you will do:

  • Edit, help assemble, and coordinate our daily print report

  • Work with Pioneer Press/TwinCities.com teams, our central design and pagination hub, and with the pressroom as needed

  • Maintain positive and effective relationships with other departments

  • Monitor pages and work on any of our platforms to ensure that content is accurate, fair and balanced, enhancing the newspaper's credibility in the community

  • Put readers first, connecting directly with readers when appropriate

  • Willing to take risks with presentation and approach, and an ability to learn from failure

  • Participate in the development of strategic imperatives for our business and in their implementation

  • Participate in and make deadline and non-deadline decisions about news judgment, design, page flow and on-time production

  • Set clear priorities, then communicate

  • Routinely in contact with newsroom members and teams, by whatever means necessary, and with various other departments, in a cooperative and informed manner

  • Work with a high degree of independence and self-reliance to help plan and implement presentation of our daily report

  • Exercises broad discretion, within overall newspaper policies, in editing, presentation, and news production

  • Works in conjunction with other newsroom teams to ensure top quality

What you will bring:

  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience preferred

  • At least a year at a daily news operation, preferably in news

  • Intense college-newspaper experience will be considered

  • Excellent news judgment, with demonstrated ability to edit news, write headlines, and assess the scope of stories

  • Must be assertive, flexible and organized

  • Strong knowledge of newspaper technology, as well as ability to analyze and coordinate visual presentation

  • Ability to deal with people with candor, honesty, and respect

Benefits and Compensation:

The hourly wage range is $19.38 - $36.62. Pay is based on several factors including but not limited to geographic location, education, work experience, time in role, certifications, etc. In addition to your salary, the Company offers eligible employees a variety of benefits including medical, dental, life and disability insurance, 401k, as well as paid time off and select paid holidays (all benefits are based on eligibility).
