Director, Development — Burger King US & Canada

The Director, Development is a key leadership role responsible for driving Burger King's restaurant growth strategy across the United States and Canada. This position owns Net Restaurant Growth end-to-end — from site sourcing and franchisee development agreements to remodel strategy and portfolio optimization — and serves as the primary development partner to the franchise community. The Director leads a team of 8 with 5 direct reports.

RBI follows a 5 day, in-office work schedule to support collaboration. Successful candidates will be expected to work onsite 5 days per week.

Roles and Responsibilities:

Strategy & Growth

  • Own and drive the multi-year development strategy for Burger King US & Canada in partnership with Operations, Finance, and Marketing — translating brand priorities into a disciplined pipeline of new restaurants, remodels, and strategic closures
  • Lead trade area and whitespace analysis to identify optimal growth markets and inform development prioritization across the US & Canada
  • Own Net Restaurant Growth as a core financial KPI — setting annual targets, tracking performance against plan, and reporting progress to executive leadership on a regular cadence

Site Approval & Portfolio Management

  • Govern the site approval process for all new Burger King locations and proposed closures, ensuring decisions are grounded in financial return, trade area analysis, and brand standards
  • Optimize the existing restaurant base through a disciplined approach to remodels, relocations, and strategic closures
  • Enforce development policy standards across the franchise system, identifying and resolving non-compliance proactively

Franchisee & Stakeholder Engagement

  • Lead complex, multi-year franchise development agreement negotiations — structuring deal terms that balance franchisee economics with brand growth commitments
  • Build and maintain strong relationships with key franchisees and partners across the region to support portfolio planning and advance the brand's long-term growth agenda
  • Collaborate with field operations to maintain healthy franchisee relationships and alignment on development priorities

Financial & Cross-functional Leadership

  • Partner with Finance to model development economics, evaluate deal ROI, and maintain accuracy of the development pipeline
  • Coordinate across Legal, Construction, Operations, and Finance to move sites from approval to opening on time and on budget
  • Develop and deliver executive-level presentations on strategic initiatives, pipeline performance, and development progress

People Leadership

  • Coach, develop, and retain a team of 8, including 5 direct reports, building bench strength and development competency across the organization
  • Set clear performance expectations, provide regular feedback, and create growth opportunities for team members at all levels

Qualifications & Skills:

  • 7-10 years of progressive experience in QSR development, franchise development, real estate development, or management consulting, with a strong business development track record
