Overview & Responsibilities

PURPOSE OF THE JOB

The Senior Manager, Business Systems is responsible for the strategic oversight, operational management, and continuous improvement of enterprise application systems across the organization. This includes managing business critical platforms such as ERP, CRM, HRIS, and other COTS and custom applications. The role ensures system reliability, user satisfaction, and alignment with business goals while leading a team of application analysts, developers, and support staff. The ideal candidate combines deep application expertise with strong leadership and stakeholder engagement skills.

BACKGROUND and EXPERIENCE

  • Bachelor’s degree in Information Systems, Computer Science, or related field (Master’s preferred).

  • PMP and/or Agile/Scrum certifications preferred

  • 10+ years of experience in enterprise application management, with at least 5 years in a leadership role.

  • Strong expertise in ERP, CRM, HRIS, and other business systems.

  • Experience managing COTS and custom applications across multiple tiers of support.

  • Excellent communication, stakeholder management, and team leadership skills.

  • ITIL v4 Foundation certification or higher, preferred

  • Vendor specific certifications (e.g., SAP, Salesforce, Oracle, Workday) preferred

  • Certified Business Analysis Professional (CBAP) or equivalent

CONTACT WITH OTHERS

  • Standard office environment with occasional travel to business units or vendor sites.

  • May require flexible hours to support global operations and critical deployments.

SUPERVISION

  • This is a supervisory role with responsibilities for the System Development , System Maintenance, and Application Development Teams with direct responsibility for recommendations for hiring, discipline, discharge, performance appraisal and salary increase planning.  

SPECIFIC JOB RESPONSIBILITIES/COMPETENCIES

Strategic Leadership

  • Develop and execute the roadmap for enterprise application systems in alignment with business and IT strategy.

  • Lead and mentor a team of application analysts, developers, and support specialists.

  • Collaborate with business units to understand needs and translate them into system capabilities and enhancements.

Application Lifecycle Management

  • Oversee the implementation, configuration, maintenance, and upgrade of enterprise applications (e.g., SAP, Oracle, Salesforce, Workday).

  • Ensure application systems are optimized for performance, usability, and scalability.

  • Manage integrations between applications and other systems, including middleware and APIs.

  • COTS & Custom Application Support

  • Manage support for Commercial Off-The-Shelf (COTS) applications across Tier 1 (basic user support and troubleshooting), Tier 2 (Configuration, data issues, and functional support) and Tier 3 (Vendor coordination, advanced diagnostics, and custom development).

  • Oversee support and enhancement of internally developed applications and tools.

Governance, Compliance & Security

  • Ensure application systems comply with internal policies and external regulations (e.g., GDPR, SOX).

  • Implement access controls, audit trails, and data protection measures.

  • Collaborate with cybersecurity and compliance teams to manage risks and incidents.

Project & Vendor Management

  • Lead application-related projects including new implementations, upgrades, and process automation.

  • Manage vendor relationships, contracts, and SLAs for application platforms and support services.

  • Evaluate and recommend new technologies and solutions to meet evolving business needs.

Documentation & Reporting

  • Maintain system documentation, user guides, and support materials.

  • Provide regular reporting on application performance, usage, and enhancement roadmaps.

  • Ensure knowledge transfer and training for users and support teams.
