The IT Product Line Specialist is responsible for the overall management, upgrade, maintenance, and security of the organization’s Linux environments. This role requires deep technical expertise in Linux, advanced troubleshooting skills, and the ability to lead support operations, test and deploy new OS versions (Linux and Redhat Openshift), and coordinate with Security and other IT teams to ensure compliance and operational excellence.
Linux System Management:
Oversee the development of Duke’s Linux image when new versions are released or when changes are required to existing versions due to security vulnerabilities, etc. Ensure high availability, reliability, and performance of all Linux-based systems.
Support & Troubleshooting:
Provide Level-three support in diagnosing and resolving complex system issues as well as escalation support for critical incidents and root cause analysis for recurring problems.
Testing & Deployment:
Evaluate, test, and deploy new Linux OS versions and patches. Develop and execute test plans to validate system stability and compatibility before production rollout.
Security & Compliance:
Collaborate with Security teams to obtain, test, and deploy new company-approved OS images. Ensure all systems adhere to security policies, including system hardening, patch management, and vulnerability remediation.
Automation & Scripting:
Develop and maintain automation scripts (e.g., Powershell, Python) for routine administrative tasks, system monitoring, and configuration management (e.g., Puppet, Ansible).
Documentation:
Maintain comprehensive documentation for system configurations, processes, troubleshooting steps, disaster / cyber recovery and change management.
Collaboration:
Work closely with application owners, infrastructure, and security teams to support business needs and ensure seamless integration of Linux systems with enterprise applications.
Disaster / Cyber Recovery:
Implement and test backup and disaster recovery procedures for Linux environments.
Bachelors degree in Computer Science
Minimum 3 years related work experience
In lieu of Bachelors degree(s) AND 4 year(s) related work experience listed above, High School/GED AND 4 year(s) related work experience
Previous Duke Energy experience
Extensive hands-on experience managing Linux systems (Red Hat, CentOS, Ubuntu, or similar).
Advanced troubleshooting and performance tuning skills.
Proficiency in scripting languages (Powershell, Python) and automation/configuration tools (Ansible, Puppet).
Strong understanding of networking, storage, and security best practices for Linux environments.
Experience with system monitoring tools (Dynatrace, Prometheus, etc.).
Ability to coordinate cross-functional projects and communicate technical concepts to non-technical stakeholders.
Relevant certifications (e.g., RHCSA, RHCE, CompTIA Linux+) are a plus.
Demonstrated experience with SUSE and SUSE Manager
Experience working in an SAP environment
Strong commitment to engagement and understanding the customer’s business operations
Experience with Satellite Clock management and Time servers
Detail oriented and excellent communication and organization skills. This role would be groomed to be the infrastructure contact for internal business units.
Demonstrated experience with RedHat Openshift
Ability to thoroughly document work processes, communicate, and adhere to processes.
Strong oral and written communication skills

Ability to effectively prioritize activities and focus team efforts based-on priority

2-3 years practical experience with Operating Systems, Software and Hardware. 2-3 years of computer skills, including general usage and support.
Works independently with very little direct supervision

Displays maturity in approach and ability to effectively handle stress and frustration
Facilitate meetings and provide directions to others.
Field Mobility Classification – Work will be performed in various field locations, as needed, after the onboarding period. However, field employees are required to live within a reasonable daily commute to their assigned work location.
