Job Summary

The Lead Design Strategist will have broad design experience leading, coaching and consulting teams or portfolios using human-centered design principles, methods and technologies to deliver customer value.  Incumbents work with independence and lead teams and efforts that drive solutions to business problems with multiple teams.  The Lead Design Strategist works with independence, has an active leadership role in communities of practice, consulting mid-level leaders and is viewed as an expert in many aspects of design.

Responsibilities

Delivering Human-Centered Design

  • Teach and coach new concepts and disciplines for human-centered value delivery

  • Working closely with other design practitioners and product consultants to implement programs to promote best practices across the organization

  • Teaches individuals and teams to manage collaborative design activities and right size work intake

  • Enables the transition to human-centered design by empowering teams to develop an human-centered mindset

  • Train teams to enable transition to a human-focused way of working

  • Setting up governing policies to support human-centered design approaches.

  • Facilitating change in new ways of working

  • Evaluating and advising on human-centered design strategies and methodologies

  • Anticipates organizational needs and proactively develops methods and activities to meet those needs

Coaching Human-Centered Design

  • Coach and mentor other Design Strategist, technology and business leaders, and POs to improve both their own and others' knowledge and skills

  • Coach human-centered design mindset to mid-level leaders

  • Mentor peers and POs to improve both their own and others' knowledge and skills.

  • Lead human-centered design workshops product and development teams, as well as key stakeholders

  • Demonstrate the importance of user research

Consult & Advise

  • Advise and consult product professionals and organization leaders to take a human-centered approach to solving business problems

  • Lead teams to align product, portfolio and/or organizational strategies with valuable business opportunities

  • Organize and align design of products/services into a portfolio or workflow

  • Develops business partnerships across the enterprise

Cultural Growth & Influence

  • Foster collaboration and communication within the program/portfolio/organization

  • Challenge the status quo

  • Participates in other communities (i.e. product, change, agile)

  • Takes a leadership role in Community of Practice (CoP)/Center of Excellence (CoE)

  • Actively supports other design strategists and removes impediments

  • Guides design strategy team in best practices

Human-centered Design Training

  • Deliver learning content

  • Design & develop learning content

  • Create & maintain learning strategy

Basic/Required Qualifications

  • Bachelors degree in Business or Information Technology

  • Minimum 6 years related work experience

  • In lieu of Bachelors degree(s) AND 4 year(s) related work experience listed above, High School/GED AND 8 year(s) related work experience

Desired Qualifications

  • Experience in apply human-centered design methodologies in digital innovation or transformation environments

  • Demonstrated servant-leadership in nontraditional ways (coaching, volunteer work leadership, etc.)

  • Excellent written, verbal, and electronic communication skills

  • Interacts effectively with others at all levels of the organization; makes persuasive and informative presentations

Working Conditions

  • Hybrid Mobility Classification – Work will be performed from both remote and onsite locations after the onboarding period. However, hybrid employees should live within a reasonable daily commute to a Duke Energy facility.
