This family of positions provide enterprise level architecture, design and support of Telecommunications Services needed to support infrastructure and business applications. These services include, but are not limited to Synchronous Optical Networking (SONET), Dense Wavelength Division Multiplexing (DWDM), Optical Transport Network (OTN), Local Area Networks (LAN), Voice Over IP (VOIP), Land Mobile Radio, Microwave Packet Radio and a variety of other hardware and software solutions. Positions also integrate applications to enable usage, support, and monitoring of these various hardware technologies. Positions develop and maintain routine work procedures and define standard designs, installation, support and upgrade methodologies. Responsibilities may include evaluation, acquisition, design, installation, integration testing, upgrading components, operational support and performance monitoring.
Telecommunications roles which fall under this job family include: Implementation Coordinator, Project Coordinator, Data/Voice/Transport/Radio Design & Support, Operations Support, Carrier/Wireless Provisioning & Billing, Training & SharePoint Support, Process/Metrics & ITSM Tools Support.
Responsibilities
Plan, design, test, implement and continue improvement of enterprise network solutions.
Configuration of Cisco Products, testing and implementation of new network hardware devices (routers and switches.) into the existing network infrastructure.
Maintain accurate diagrams and configurations for all network devices.
Prepare engineering job packages consisting of detailed parts / equipment lists, and appropriate documentation (drawings, network diagrams, configurations, etc.).
Ensure life cycle cost effective design of systems with the goal of meeting business needs and providing a reliable and efficient service to the user.
Prepare and submit cost estimates for planned installations where required.
Maintain familiarity with current networking technologies at various facilities.
Procure, turn-up, and troubleshoot both private and public WAN circuits.
Work across the IT organization to provide end to end solutions to the customer.
Basic/Required Qualifications
Associates degree
In lieu of Associates degree, high school diploma/GED AND two (2) years minimum of related work experience
Desired Qualifications
Cisco Certification CCNA
Prior experience with design & support of Cisco Systems' products
Prior experience with network hardware/software solutions, such as Cisco routers and switches, Cisco wireless controllers and APs
General knowledge of networking concepts- TCP/IP, routing and switching
Understanding of communication technology and data networking fundamentals
One year experience with Microsoft (MS) Windows Operating Systems and MS Office.
Demonstrates ability to work independently with close direct supervision or review.
Demonstrates troubleshooting & problem solving skills.
Experience with position specific technical Software and Hardware. Computer skills, including general usage and support. Ability to research independently, multi-task, and meet deadlines under tight timeframes.
Ability to deal with a variety of individuals from various socio-economic, cultural and ethnic backgrounds. Demonstrated ability to build working relationships with different levels within the organization. Ability to work effectively in a work plan driven/team environment.
Good written and oral communication skills.
Ability to learn and apply defined telecom technologies to the business.
General knowledge of the telecommunications systems, associated safety policies, practices, work procedures and regulatory requirements.
Effective inter-personal skills (listening, conflict management, approachability, negotiations).
Specific Requirements
Only previous Duke Energy interns/co-ops may be considered.
Working Conditions
Up to 5% travel
Primarily Office, some plan and substation visits that require PPE
Hybrid mobility classification - work will be performed from both remote and onsite locations after the onboarding period. However, hybrid employees should live within a reasonable commute to a Duke Energy facility.
