In this business development role, you will be responsible for community outreach to increase awareness of Banner’s services and drive surgical volume growth. The ideal candidate will have extensive experience in business development, marketing or healthcare sales.

The position will provide strategic, advisory support to Banner Health’s business development initiatives, focusing on overcoming complex referral barriers and optimizing provider relationships. This position will advise senior leadership and internal teams on key business strategies, helping to shape and guide the development and execution of growth initiatives. With a deep understanding of healthcare systems and business development, this role will use their expertise to drive the creation and implementation of data-driven strategies, improve provider engagement, and help optimize referral growth and retention.
CORE FUNCTIONS
1. Advise senior leadership on overcoming complex referral barriers, enhancing provider collaboration, and optimizing workflows to drive business growth and operational efficiency.
2. Guide the development of long-term, trust-based relationships with key community providers and internal teams, aligning business development strategies with organizational objectives to foster growth and performance.
3. Provide strategic direction on data-driven initiatives to accelerate referral growth, improve retention, and generate demand. Support the creation of predictive models and analytics strategies that align with Banner Health’s overarching business goals.
4. Serve as a key advisor to internal stakeholders (e.g., business development, IT, strategy, marketing), ensuring effective alignment on strategic initiatives, program promotion, and provider engagement to maximize organizational performance.
5. Advise on the development and execution of strategies to expand Banner Health’s market presence, increase network reach, and enhance market share in targeted regions.
6. Provide insights and recommendations for optimizing referral processes, improving provider engagement, and enhancing operational efficiency, based on comprehensive data analysis and industry best practices.
7. Advise and coordinate efforts for provider engagement events, ensuring that these initiatives align with the broader strategic goals and contribute to expanding Banner Health’s network.
8. Offer high-level strategic guidance to the business development team, ensuring the effective execution of initiatives that align with organizational growth objectives and foster long-term success.
9. Continuously assess the performance of business development initiatives and identify areas for optimization. Provide recommendations for improvements to ensure sustained growth, high performance, and alignment with strategic goals.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Must demonstrate a strong understanding of healthcare systems, insurance, and business development, typically gained through a bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience.
A minimum of seven years of experience in healthcare sales, including complex sales, negotiations, and customer service, is required.
Valid driver’s license and insured vehicle are necessary (expenses covered per Banner Travel Policy). Ability to travel frequently and work flexible hours for provider events and meetings. Position requires approximately 80% travel time.
Must excel in a fast-paced healthcare environment, effectively managing competing priorities with strong communication, organizational, and time management skills. Knowledge of healthcare trends, regulatory frameworks, and business development is essential for strategic decision-making.
Proficiency in decision-making, emotional intelligence, innovation, program development, conflict resolution, and relationship-building are also required.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
Strong skills in real-time communication, collaboration, project management, critical thinking, and data analysis, with a customer-focused, empathetic, and proactive approach.
Ten or more years of experience in business development or healthcare sales, with a strong understanding of healthcare systems, insurance, and business intelligence.
A proven track record of driving results through cross-functional teamwork, market data analysis, and translating insights into actionable strategies.
Excels at building trust-based relationships, cultivating customer loyalty, and adapting to frequent travel and off-hour work, while maintaining a commitment to continuous learning and long-term success.
Additional related education and/or experience preferred.
