POSITION SUMMARY
Performs and maintains preventative maintenance, repair, analysis, design, modification, installation and evaluation of sophisticated and complex instrumentation used in the clinical laboratory.

Performs all functions according to established policies, procedures, regulatory and accreditation requirements, as well as applicable professional standards.  
 

PHYSICAL DEMANDS/ENVIRONMENT FACTORS

Requires reading, writing, verbal communication skills, stooping, bending, reaching, kneeling and standing for long periods. Mechanical aptitude, ability to lift up to 75 pounds and work under stress of deadlines. Ability to work varied hours when needed. Work is performed in an (OSHA 1) work environment. Ability to travel out of state for up to 4 weeks at a time.  

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES

  • Ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing.   

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

  • Associates Degree in Biomedical Engineering or related field.  
  • Six (6) years of clinical lab instrumentation maintenance experience. 
    • OR completion of a Biomed Military training program and six (6) years’ progressively more responsible work experience in all phases of clinical laboratory instrumentation.   
  • Proficient at reading and analyzing schematic diagrams, including analog and digital circuits.
  • Working knowledge of electrical and electronic fundamentals, mechanical and pneumatics theory, digital circuit theory and microprocessor theory.
  • Proficient in Windows PC and network operating systems, PC repair. Working with Laptops.
  • Fundamental knowledge in Local Area Network configuration and troubleshooting.
  • Knowledgeable of Joint Commission and College of American Pathologists (CAP) standards for Environment of Care.
  • May be required to travel on a regular basis between various facilities and cities.
  • Valid State Drivers’ License.  

     

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Certification as a clinical laboratory equipment specialist (CLES) or CBMET.   
  • Additional related education and/or experience.
