Job Description:
POSITION SUMMARY
The Quality Improvement & Review Specialist is responsible for supporting quality improvement initiatives that enhance clinical excellence utilizing high-quality clinical screening, data abstraction, data compilation, documentation, and the application of strong critical thinking, creativity, organization, clinical reasoning, and effective priority setting.
The Specialist ensures data integrity by developing and implementing quality checks and continuously seeks opportunities to streamline and improve data collection processes. Collaboration is central to this role, with regular engagement across internal teams and active participation in national and state benchmarking programs.
The Specialist works closely with designated physicians, leaders, and staff, applying different process improvement methodologies to address identified performance gaps and support ongoing educational needs, simultaneously promoting the delivery of high quality and safe patient care.
POSITION QUALIFICATIONS
Education/Licensure/Certification:
- Current California Registered Nursing (RN) License required
- Bachelor’s Degree preferred
- Certified Professional in Healthcare Quality (CPHQ) preferred
Knowledge/Experience:
- Minimum of five years recent experience in acute care or ambulatory care setting required.
- Knowledge and experience in quality management or performance improvement.
- Knowledge and experience with performance improvement tools (PDSA, FMEA, RCA).
- Understanding of Joint Commission standards, CMS quality reporting programs, and other publicly reported databases.
- Clinical expertise to effectively evaluate quality of care utilizing concurrent and retrospective chart review and other sources, as appropriate.
- Experience with clinical chart review and abstraction, maintaining abstraction schedule, and performing data analysis of outcomes to identify trends and/or opportunities.
- Experience in data entry and data management.
- Experience in performing analyses and presenting complex clinical data and information in clear and concise formats.
- Experience with Electronic Health Records (EHRs), preferably EPIC.
Skills:
- Demonstrated experience in clinical patient assessment, planning, intervention, and evaluation.
- Strong communication skills; able to communicate information and data publicly in front of stakeholders at every level of the organization.
- Demonstrated skills to facilitate clinical and administrative problem solving by engaging teams and work groups.
- Ability to work collaboratively with physicians and clinical department leaders.
- Experience with change management methodologies, tools, and techniques.
- Proficient in computer and internet use with intermediate to advanced expertise in Microsoft Office applications (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Teams)
