Job Description:

POSITION SUMMARY

The Perinatal Technician is a non-licensed individual that provides a variety of support services for the nursing and medical staff in the Birth Center.  This position is trained to scrub during cesarean sections and provide other patient care and non-patient care activities under the direction and supervision of a Charge Nurse. Collaborates with other members of the patient care team to provide care in accordance with the medical plan of care.  Maintains positive public relations by interacting with patients, visitors, physicians and other staff members in a friendly and professional manner.  Ensures the safe handling of infectious materials to protect patients, visitors and employees at all times.

POSITION QUALIFICATIONS

Education/Licensure/Certification:

• High school diploma or equivalent.

• Completion of an approved OR Tech/OB Tech course, preferred. (Completion of an approved technical course can be waived, to allow for in-house training.)  

• Basic Life Support (BLS) certification required.

• Medical Assistant or CNA certification preferred.

Knowledge/Skills:

• Has the physical and mental ability sufficient to accomplish the duties of a Perinatal Technician.

• Computer familiarity required.

• Must be able to follow instructions, work quickly and accurately in a fast paced environment.
