ABOUT THE ROLE:
The Commercial Middle Market Business Development Officer (BDO) Team Lead provides frontline leadership for a team of Business Development Officers and is responsible for driving consistent execution of business development strategy across assigned markets. This role serves as a player coach, translating national BDO sales priorities into disciplined day to day execution through coaching, pipeline oversight, and performance management.
The Team Lead partners closely with the National BDO Sales Leader, regional Commercial Banking leadership, and cross functional partners to support new client acquisition, revenue growth, and talent development. Success is measured by team performance, pipeline health, new client wins, and consistent execution of sales expectations.

YOUR RESPONSIBILITIES:

The responsibilities for this role are below; you may support projects of varying complexity based on skill and organizational priorities.

Team Leadership & Coaching:
Lead, coach, and develop a team of Business Development Officers to drive consistent prospecting behaviors, sales discipline, and performance outcomes.

Sales Execution & Accountability:
Hold BDOs accountable to activity expectations, production goals, and sales rhythms; proactively address performance gaps and execution challenges.

Pipeline Oversight & Deal Support:
Provide hands‑on guidance to BDOs on opportunity strategy, deal structuring, and advancement of complex prospects through the sales process.

Client & Market Engagement:
Participate in key prospect meetings, joint calls, and market activities to support BDOs and reinforce best‑in‑class business development practices.

Cross‑Functional Partnership:
Partner with Commercial Relationship Managers, Treasury Management, Commercial Payments, Credit, and Wealth teams to ensure coordinated execution and strong client outcomes.

Execution of National Strategy:
Translate national BDO sales strategy, playbooks, and priorities into consistent, localized execution across assigned markets or territories.

Talent Development & Onboarding:
Support onboarding, training, and ongoing development of BDOs; identify skill gaps and partner with leadership and HR to build bench strength and readiness.

Market Intelligence & Feedback:
Provide feedback to the National BDO Sales Leader on market trends, competitive dynamics, talent needs, and execution opportunities.

Reporting & Forecasting:
Ensure accurate pipeline reporting, activity tracking, and forecasting across the BDO team to support transparency and performance management.

Risk & Compliance Oversight:
Reinforce adherence to risk, credit, and compliance standards; ensure BDOs operate within the bank’s risk appetite throughout prospecting and onboarding.

Other Duties:
Performing other duties as assigned, adapting to new tasks or shifts in priorities as necessary to support your team’s and the company’s mission.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Business, Finance, Accounting, or a related field (or equivalent work experience).
  • Demonstrated experience in commercial banking, business development, or sales leadership.
  • Proven ability to originate and support new Middle Market commercial relationships.
  • Experience coaching, influencing, or leading sales professionals in a matrixed environment.
  • Strong understanding of commercial lending, deposit products, and treasury management solutions.

REQUIRED SKILLS:

Qualified candidates will possess an advanced degree of proficiency (typically from 7+ years of work or practical experience), in:

  • Sales Leadership & Coaching: Ability to develop, motivate, and hold sales professionals accountable for results.
  • Business Development Execution: Strong command of prospecting, pipeline management, and deal progression.
  • Commercial Financial Solutions: Knowledge of loans, deposits, treasury management, and fee‑based products.
  • Performance Management: Ability to interpret results, diagnose gaps, and drive corrective action.
  • Communication & Influence: Ability to effectively influence BDOs, partners, and leadership.

Regional Business Development Team Lead

Total Base Pay Range 121,900.00 - 262,100.00 USD Annual

The base salary for this position is reflective of the range of salary levels for all roles within this pay grade across the U.S. Individual salaries within this range will vary based on factors such as role, relevant skillset, relevant experience, education and geographic location. In addition to the base salary, this role is eligible to participate in an incentive compensation plan, with any such payment based upon company, line of business and/or individual performance.
