The Physician Assistant provides high-quality, patient-centered care in a hospital-based Acute Surgical Services setting. The physician assistant works collaboratively with attending surgeons, residents, nurses, and multidisciplinary teams to manage pre-operative, intra-operative (if applicable), and post-operative care for surgical patients.
Clinical Responsibilities:
Provide direct patient care in the inpatient and perioperative settings.
Perform comprehensive surgical floor-level care, including patient assessment, postoperative management, wound care, and coordination of multidisciplinary care plans.
Function as a first or second surgical assistant in the operating room as needed to meet staffing demands or support complex cases.
Collaborate with attending surgeons and care team members to facilitate timely and safe patient throughput across the surgical service.
Respond to urgent patient needs and serve as a clinical resource for patient care.
Provide night/weekend coverage divided in an equitable manner amongst the PA surgical services team.
Education & Certification
Graduate of an accredited Physician Assistant (PA) program
Current Massachusetts licensure
Board certification e.g.,NCCPA
DEA license (or eligibility)
Experience
Preferred: 1–3+ years of experience in surgery, acute care, or hospital medicine
Skills & Competencies
Strong clinical decision-making and critical thinking skills
Ability to work in a fast-paced, high-acuity environment
Proficiency in procedural skills (preferred)
Excellent communication and teamwork abilities
