JOB DESCRIPTION AND POSITION REQUIREMENTS
Penn State is searching for a full time Maintenance Worker, Area Landscape (Office of Physical Plant) - Grade 8 to join the team. Duties include:
Plant, transplant, weed, spray, cultivate, fertilize and apply herbicides to flowers, trees, and shrubs; remove broken or dead branches from trees or shrubs, and remove flowers as directed
Remove brush, paper, spoil and rubbish from walks, roads, curbs, parking lots, lawns and other University property on a daily basis
Remove leaves, grass clippings and cinders from walks, steps, roads, curbs, parking lots, lawns and other University property
Trim and/or remove vines from buildings as required
Remove snow and ice from handicap ramps, steps, walks, roads, parking lots and shrubbery; cinder and salt roadways, walks, handicap ramps, steps and parking lots, using hand spreaders, pick-up trucks, etc.
Remove paint and other materials defacing the exterior of University property as required
Paint benches, fences, guardrails, sign posts, fire hydrants, refuse containers, traffic lines, etc.
Cut, trim, fertilize, spray, aerify, roll, seed, re-seed, rake and water lawns, including athletic areas
Operate trucks, tractors, power mowers, sprayers, compressors, spreaders, power sweepers, pneumatic hammer, chain saw and other landscape equipment
Clean, oil, grease, refuel and inspect water level, fuel level, anti-freeze and air pressure of tires on equipment
Perform minor repairs and preventive maintenance to equipment such as changing filters, adjusting belts, etc.
Erect and repair walkway posts and chains
Assist in erecting or removing various types of fences, posts, traffic and directory signs
Assist in laying asphalt patching materials
Maintain assigned zone landscape storage facility and assigned tools in a neat, clean and orderly condition
Report general conditions and problems in assigned zone to group leader or supervisor as instructed
Report unusual job conditions to group leader or supervisor
Job Requirements: Requires the use of simple writing, adding, subtracting, whole numbers and the carrying out of instructions; and the use of fixed gauges and direct reading instruments and devices in which interpretation is not required. Must possess Pennsylvania Certified Applicator License category 6 and 7. 3 to 6 months of previous experience or on-the-job training.
Work Schedule: 6:00 a.m. - 2:30 p.m.
Days Off: Saturday, Sunday

REQUIRED CERTIFICATIONS
BACKGROUND CHECKS/CLEARANCES
Employment with the University will require successful completion of background check(s) in accordance with University policies. This position requires that you operate a motor vehicle as a part of your job duties. A valid driver’s license and successful completion of a motor vehicle records check will be required in addition to standard background checks.Penn State does not sponsor or take over sponsorship of a staff employment Visa.
