Position Overview

The College of Architecture and the Built Environment at Thomas Jefferson University invites applications for an Adjunct Faculty position in the Master of Urban Design (MUD)program. We seek accomplished design professionals and scholars with expertise in urban design, planning, and the built environment to teach graduate-level courses and studios.

The successful candidate will join a diverse and collaborative academic community dedicated to advancing innovative, equitable, and sustainable approaches to urbanism.

Responsibilities

  • Teach one or more graduate-level courses or design studios in Urban Design, focusing on topics such as:
    • Urban form and morphology
    • Sustainable and resilient cities
    • Urban design theory and practice
    • GIS and digital urban design tools
    • Public space and landscape integration
    • Community engagement and participatory design
  • Develop and deliver course content aligned with program learning objectives.
  • Mentor and advise students on design projects and professional development.
  • Participate in design reviews, critiques, and program discussions.
  • Collaborate with faculty in Architecture, Planning, and Landscape Architecture to support interdisciplinary learning.
  • Maintain currency in professional practice and research relevant to urban design.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Professional degree in Urban DesignArchitectureLandscape ArchitectureUrban Planning, or a closely related field.
  • Demonstrated professional experience and/or teaching in urban design or related areas.
  • Strong communication and collaboration skills.
  • Commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion in design education.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Master’s degree or higher in Urban Design or a closely related field.
  • Significant professional design experience with a record of built or published work.
  • Experience teaching at the graduate level, including design studio instruction.
  • Proficiency with digital tools such as Rhino, GIS, Adobe Creative Suite, and 3D modeling/visualization software.
  • Evidence of engagement with issues of sustainability, social equity, and urban resilience.
