Job Description Summary

The Executive Director, Scientific Due Diligence for Global Discovery Chemistry (GDC) is a pivotal global role responsible for providing expert scientific evaluation and objective risk assessment of small molecule and mixed modality assets. This individual will serve as the chemistry subject matter expert on deal teams, collaborating closely with stakeholders across Global Discovery Chemistry (GDC), Biomedical Research, Strategy & Growth and Novartis. The successful candidate will play a critical part in acquiring high-quality assets to enhance and strengthen the BR and Novartis portfolio.

Role Responsibilities:

  • Scientific Due Diligence: Lead comprehensive scientific evaluations of potential small molecule and mixed modality assets, ensuring robust assessments of their quality, novelty, and strategic fit.

  • Chemistry Subject Matter Expertise: Act as the primary chemistry expert on deal teams, providing informed guidance and deep technical insight throughout the due diligence process.

  • Risk Assessment and Mitigation: Identify and objectively evaluate potential risks associated with prospective assets, including scientific, technical, and developmental risks; propose feasible risk mitigation strategies to support informed decision-making.

  • Stakeholder Management: Effectively engage and communicate with diverse stakeholders across GDC, BR, and Novartis to ensure alignment and transparency throughout the asset evaluation and acquisition process.

  • Portfolio Impact: Drive the acquisition of high-quality assets, contributing directly to the strategic growth and competitiveness of the BR and Novartis global portfolio.

  • Cross-Functional Collaboration: Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams, leveraging expertise across drug discovery, chemistry, biology, and business functions to deliver comprehensive asset assessments.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Education: Ph.D. in Chemistry, Medicinal Chemistry

  • Experience: 15+years experience in drug discovery, with a strong track record in evaluating small molecule and mixed modality assets within the pharmaceutical or biotechnology industry.

  • Expertise: Demonstrated proficiency in scientific due diligence, risk assessment, and mitigation strategies for drug discovery projects.

  • Agility & Complexity Management: Proven ability to navigate complex scientific and organizational environments, adapting quickly to changing priorities and managing multiple projects simultaneously.

  • Stakeholder Engagement: Strong interpersonal and communication skills, with experience managing and influencing stakeholders across global organizations.

  • Global Perspective: Experience working in or leading global teams, with a clear understanding of the challenges and opportunities in a multinational environment.

The salary for this position is expected to range between 214,900.00 and $399,100.00 USD per year.

The final salary offered is determined based on factors like, but not limited to, relevant skills and experience, and upon joining Novartis will be reviewed periodically. Novartis may change the published salary range based on company and market factors.

Your compensation will include a performance-based cash incentive and, depending on the level of the role, eligibility to be considered for annual equity awards.
