Position Summary
Responsible for managing the entire compliance cycle with primary responsibilities centered on return preparation and tax bill processing and payment, specializing primarily in complex properties assessed at the state and local levels for taxpayers in energy, communication, oil & gas, industrial manufacturing, and mining industries. The role focuses on ensuring accurate preparation and timely filing of returns, processing tax bills and payments, and assisting the team with other projects as needed.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Prepare complex personal property tax returns and supporting workpapers using Microsoft Excel, PowerPlan, PTMS, or OneSource
Review personal property fixed asset listings for misclassified assets
Review state and local laws, rules, and regulations
Present completed returns to Supervisor/Manager for review
Maintain accurate property tax calendar
Ensure all returns and tax payments for assigned clients are mailed in a timely manner
Update internal compliance software throughout reporting, assessment, and tax payment cycles
Track jurisdictional assessment notices and tax bills
Process tax bills and prepare check requests/funding requests for tax payments
Prepare and/or review client billings
Serve as a resource for team members regarding client-specific processing issues
Assist with new client implementations, ensuring property tax software programs and internal systems are set up properly
Assist in filing appeals, preparing amended returns, and submitting refund requests
Assist management and other business development professionals in scoping and developing customized solutions for new and prospective clients
Non-Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Assist management with special projects
Assist with training of other department members
Assist Supervisors and Managers with reviewing returns, funding requests, etc.
Perform other duties as assigned
Serve as a resource for junior team members
Education and Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, Economics, Mathematics, Engineering, or related field
3-5 years’ experience in property tax
Organization and ability to excel in a fast-paced environment
Experience with property tax software (PTMS, OneSource, PowerPlan)
Advanced knowledge of Excel
Excellent verbal and written communication skills
Valid driver’s license
