Job Description:

Help the Oregon Department of Fish and Wildlife fulfill its mission: To protect and enhance Oregon's fish and wildlife and their habitats for use and enjoyment by present and future generations.

Location: There is one full-time position located in Gold Beach, Oregon.  Housing is not provided for this position.

Anticipated Duration: 

February 1, 2026 – April 30, 2026

What you will do:

You will conduct stream surveys in order to enumerate and collect biological data from spawning winter steelhead.  This project is necessary to monitor the health of south coast steelhead populations.

This position requires a Boater Education Card obtained through the Oregon State Marine Board. There are some exceptions to this (e.g., Coast Guard Boat Operator License or commercial fishing license). For further information, access the Web site at www.boatoregon.com. Minimum Qualifications:

Minimum qualifications are not established for this position; however we are seeking applicants with the following related skills and experience (e.g., experience identifying adult salmonids, operating drift boats and kayaks in rivers and streams, conducting salmon and steelhead stream surveys in remote areas, conducting adult salmonid monitoring, communicating with members of the public, and keeping neat and precise field data) and who possess or are in pursuit of a Fisheries or Wildlife Science degree or related degree in biological/ecological sciences will be given preference for interviews.
