The Quality Control Technician is responsible for the quality of all products processed by BlueScope Coated Products (BCP).  The Quality Control Technician verifies the accuracy of and calibrates all the instruments used to evaluate product quality. The Quality Assurance Specialist conducts routine audits to ensure compliance with the Quality/Environmental Management System. Performs on ongoing testing for research and development as assigned. Other duties include investigations and problem solving on all suppliers related rejected material.

  • Implements and enforces BCP’s ISO-compliant Quality and Environmental Management System throughout the product realization processes
  • Performs QC checks, frequency determined by SOP, records maintenance for QC testing
  • Assist in an active role with regard to ISO auditing and compliance activities.
  • Performs daily analysis, disposition, and management of non-compliant (HFI) material(s) diverted from the production process.
  • Tracks, manages, and reports raw materials consumed on the coil coating line. This includes improving/eliminating the consumption of raw materials where possible to reduce operating cost without impacting the process or product quality
  • Analyzes process data to validate or refine the Quality Control standards in place on the production line
  • Paint trial assistance, data gathering and documentation and related testing.
  • Assists the Quality Assurance Specialist with reviewing, approving, and ensuring the correctness of the process parameters designed into each incoming shop order (Contract Review)
  • Performs all the functions of the Quality Engineer when called upon due to vacation, illness or other reasons for absence
  • Calibration of measuring equipment, records maintenance for calibration
  • Assist Quality Engineer on projects and aspects of the quality management system.

Education & Experience Qualifications    

Minimum:

  • High School Diploma or GED
  • Previous experience in manufacturing environment
  • 3 years of experience working in a steel processing, manufacturing, or Quality Systems.
  • Experience using measuring equipment

Preferred:

  • 2+ years of Coil Paint Line experience
  • Oracle experience
  • Calibration experience
