Provo City is hiring a part-time laborer to perform general maintenance and care in the Water Reclamation Plant of the Provo City Public Works Department.

This position will require working on a variety of tasks at the Water Reclamation Plant including operating equipment and performing maintenance and groundwork. Qualified, civic-minded individuals are encouraged to apply.

What is the compensation?

$18.00 - $20.00 per hour (Depending upon skill level and experience). Payment will be by direct deposit.

What are the main duties?

  • Haul refuse and debris.

  • Remove snow.

  • Paint equipment.

  • Perform maintenance at remote pump stations.

  • Operate forklift, trucks, electric/gas carts, mowers, weed whips, chemical sprayers, pressure washers, lawn edgers, blowers, and backhoes.

  • Maneuver and back trailers.

  • Perform minor landscaping duties, such as weed control, cutting grass, trimming trees and shrubs, spraying herbicides and pesticides, adjusting and repairing irrigation system, cultivating planter areas, and maintaining plant site, tools and equipment.

  • Assist in cleaning and maintaining tanks, buildings, equipment, and electrical and control panels.

  • Repair and maintain small engines and equipment.

  • Perform general janitorial duties.

  • Assist other crew members as needed/directed and perform other related duties as required.

 

What do I need to apply?

  • Any training or experience that demonstrates an ability to perform the work.

  • Applicant must have physical strength and agility enough to perform the work and be able to work independently with minimum supervision.

  • Ability to follow directions and communicate effectively with the public in a courteous manner.

  • Safely use hand tools and equipment required by the position.

  • Applicant must be 18 years of age at time of appointment.

  • Valid, lawful driver license.

  • Preference will be given to applicants who possess a Class A Commercial Driver License (CDL).

 

What are the hours?

Approximately 25-40 hours per week, Monday through Thursday, 6:00 AM to 4:30 PM. Schedule can be flexible depending on Department need and required supervision.

 

What are the physical and environmental factors?

This work requires strenuous physical labor; walking; bending; reaching; lifting (up to 80 lbs.); climbing ladders and stairs; working in tight quarters; working with hands; and being exposed to adverse weather conditions and some pesticides/herbicides. Also includes exposure to hazardous conditions such as open and aerated tanks, high places, odors, and dangerous gases.

 

What is the selection process?

Applications will be reviewed in the order they are submitted, with the first screening being held on April 1, 2026. Applicants must meet the minimum qualifications listed above to be eligible for consideration.

 

If selected for hire, candidate will be required to successfully pass a drug screen and criminal background check. Non-disclosure may result in dismissal. Applicants with unsatisfactory drug screen results will be ineligible for appointment or application to any Provo City position for a minimum period of six (6) months.
