Provo City is seeking a full-time Parks Projects Grounds Technician to perform work related to construction, maintenance, and installation of various projects in the Parks division. This position involves constructing diverse structures and maintaining a variety of grounds and landscapes. What is the compensation?

(G23, G24, G25) $21.99 - $33.43 per hour (depending on experience)

What are the main duties?

  • General work in the construction trades including excavating, sub-grading, trenching, final grading, concrete work, painting, electrical, masonry, roofing, framing, plumbing, and carpentry.

  • Develop, install, and maintain special park and ground improvement projects.

  • Construct pavilions, facilities, and various other structures.

  • Maintain grounds, hardscapes, and softscapes.

  • Monitor employee and public safety, ensure utility markings are current on each job site.

  • Ensure OSHA and other regulations are followed.

  • Install playground equipment and fall arresting surfaces.

  • Perform general custodial services and cleanup of restrooms, pavilions, playgrounds, picnic tables, benches, bleachers, and other facilities.

  • Remove snow and ice, winterize water lines, and perform other seasonal activities.

  • Set up equipment for special events.

  • Prepare estimates for landscape projects.

  • Operate a variety of equipment and tools related to the job.

  • May supervise and train lower-level employees.

What are the minimum requirements?

Provo City will honor equivalent experience at all levels.

Level I

  • One year experience in lawn and tree care, general construction, light/heavy equipment operation, and/or other job-related experience.

  • A valid, lawful Class B CDL.

Level II

  • High School Diploma or equivalent (GED).

  • Two years of experience as a Grounds Technician I OR three years of general construction, grounds maintenance, or other job-related experience.

  • Utah Pesticide Applicator License may be required.

  • A valid, lawful Class B CDL.

Level III

  • High School Diploma or equivalent (GED).

  • Three years of experience as a Grounds Tech II OR six years of general construction, grounds maintenance, or other job-related experience.

  • Valid, lawful Class A CDL is required.

  • Utah Pesticide Applicator License may be required.

What is the selection process?

Applications will be reviewed in the order they are submitted, with the first screening being held on April 2, 2026. Applicants must meet the minimum qualifications listed above to be eligible for consideration.

If selected for hire, candidate will be required to successfully pass a drug screen and criminal background check. Non-disclosure may result in dismissal. Applicants with unsatisfactory drug screen results will be ineligible for appointment or application to any Provo City position for a minimum period of six (6) months.
