PRIMARY PURPOSE/GENERAL DESCRIPTION:   

Reporting to the Program Coordinator, Scripps College seeks an Assistant Program Coordinator for the Scripps College Academy (SCA). Established in 2002, SCA is an award-winning college access program for young women in the greater Los Angeles area and Inland Empire. Services target high-achieving young women with limited resources who seek to become the first in their families to attend colleges. The Assistant Program Coordinator’s primary responsibilities will be to assist in the coordination and implementation of educational outreach programs for high school aged students, focusing on academic enrichment and college preparation. 

DESCRIPTION OF DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  • Manage winter recruitment administrative tasks including coordination of logistics with high school contacts (counselors, teachers) to set up on-site SCA information sessions at high schools in target recruitment areas.
  • Strategic oversight for assigned SCA recruitment and outreach areas, including cultivating, coordinating, and assessing high school partnerships, including work with counselors, teachers and community partners.  With a goal of greater outreach and awareness of the program.  
  • Lead and participate in the scholar selection process to ensure the cohort reflects the mission of the program.  
  • With guidance from the Coordinator, design, plan and assess parts of SCA’s college-readiness programming, including curriculum development, outcomes and program evaluation, and a two-week residential summer program for new SCA Scholars, and Saturday workshops during the academic year. 
  • Oversee operational logistics of the summer program, liaise with campus vendors (facilities, catering, etc.), order and track program materials and equipment, and manages program data systems, participant rosters, and assessment collection.
  • Assist with student transportation to workshops and field trips during summer program and Saturday programming.
  • Manage administrative components of student employee supervision, including scheduling, documentation, payroll, and training logistics. 
  • Provide supervisory coverage in the office and during programming when the Program Coordinator is unavailable. 
  • Serve as primary administrative supervisory for the STEAM Coordinator (Scripps student employee), including timesheets, hiring paperwork, communication, and workflow support. 
  • Assist with the STRIVE programming including check-in calls with STRIVE Scholars (SCA Scholars in college) in the Fall and Spring semester.  
  • Provides additional support to the Program Coordinator, as directed. 
  • Perform other duties as assigned. 
  • Active support for the College’s Principles of Community and Institutional Values in the performance of job duties.

REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, ABILITIES:

Individual must possess knowledge, skills and ability to be able to successfully perform the essential functions of the position, or be able to explain or demonstrate how the essential functions will be performed, with or without reasonable accommodation, using some other combination of skills and abilities.

  • Excellent writing, communication, public speaking, and interpersonal skills.
  • Strong organizational skills, ability to handle multiple projects simultaneously, and to work well under pressure and independently.  
  • Experience in planning, organizing and implementing educational, extra-curricular, and other social programs and activities for high school age students preferred.
  • Experience and sensitivity in working with students who are first in their families to go to college and lower-income groups preferred.
  • Experience working on a college campus and a commitment to and an understanding of the value of a liberal arts education and single sex education preferred.
  • Must possess excellent writing, communication, public speaking, and interpersonal skills. 
  • Exceptional organizational skills, the ability to handle multiple projects simultaneously, and to work well under pressure is required. 
  • Experience working on a college campus and an understanding of the value of a liberal arts education and women’s education is desired. 
  • Spanish language fluency is highly desired.
  • Must be proficient in Microsoft Office Suite. 
  • Must be customer service oriented with excellent communication skills.
  • Ability to manage tasks and deadlines.

QUALIFICATION STANDARDS:

EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE:  

Bachelor’s degree or any combination of education and experience equivalent to graduation from high school or any other combination of education, training or experience that provides the required knowledge, skills and ability to perform the job.

LICENSES / CERTIFICATES 

Must maintain a valid driver’s license and a driving record acceptable to the College’s automobile insurer.

OTHER:

HOURS, CLASSIFICATION AND STATUS:  

This is a regular status, full-time, non-exempt, benefits eligible position.

The regular hours for this position are Monday-Friday from 8:00 am to 5:00 pm. Hours will vary based upon the needs of the department and the College.

Must be available to work a varied schedule, including 2 Saturdays per month and support the summer conference program as needed.

This position is in-person only and not eligible for remote or hybrid work.

Hourly rate range: $24.00-$26.25. The hourly rate of the finalist(s) selected for this role will be set based on a variety of factors, including but not limited to, internal equity, experience, education, specialty, and training.

Ability to see within normal parameters.  Ability to hear within normal parameters.  Ability to bend and stoop, for example, to file.  Ability to move about.  Ability to lift and carry short distances up to 20 lbs., for example to lift or move office supplies, files, books, and packages.  Ability to navigate outdoor environments from time to time as may be required for field trips and events.
