About the location:
We are seeking a Finance leader to support the Director of Finance in overseeing the hotel’s financial operations, ensuring strong governance, compliance, and operational excellence. This role plays a key part in delivering accurate financial reporting, maintaining robust internal controls, and driving efficiency across the Finance function.
The successful candidate will lead and develop the Finance team, support business decision-making, and ensure all financial practices align with corporate standards, local regulations, and Management Agreement requirements.
This opportunity is for the upcoming new opening, Four Seasons Resort Okinawa, Japan.
What You’ll Be Doing
Team Leadership & Development
- Supervise and support the day-to-day operations of the Finance team, ensuring high performance and accountability
- Coach, mentor, and develop team members, fostering a culture of continuous learning and professional growth
- Conduct regular department meetings and ensure effective communication across the team
- Manage employee lifecycle activities, including recruitment, performance management, and development planning
- Build strong working relationships across departments and with the Home Office
Financial Operations & Reporting
- Oversee the month-end close process, ensuring timely and accurate preparation of financial statements, accruals, and journal entries in line with corporate standards and USALI
- Ensure all balance sheet and bank reconciliations are completed, reviewed, and approved in accordance with policy
- Maintain accuracy of financial records, including fixed assets, depreciation, and exchange rate application where applicable
- Review and approve journal entries, ensuring proper documentation and compliance with internal controls
Cash, Controls & Compliance
- Manage daily cash position and ensure optimal use of funds in line with corporate guidelines
- Ensure strict adherence to internal controls, including payment approvals, cheque handling, and segregation of duties
- Oversee credit card processes, post-departure adjustments, and related reconciliations
- Ensure compliance with Management Agreements, including rent, fees, and other financial obligations
- Coordinate and support internal and external audits, ensuring timely follow-up on recommendations
Budgeting, Forecasting & Cost Management
- Support the preparation of annual budgets and regular forecasts
- Monitor and control hotel expenses, ensuring cost discipline while maintaining operational standards
- Analyse financial performance and highlight variances or areas for improvement
Governance & Risk Management
- Ensure compliance with all local, corporate, and regulatory requirements, including tax filings and statutory reporting
- Maintain proper documentation for contracts, leases, and financial agreements
- Safeguard hotel assets through strong financial controls and risk management practices
Operational & Business Support
- Partner with operational teams to align financial practices with business and guest experience objectives
- Monitor inventory levels and operating supplies in accordance with corporate policies
- Identify opportunities to improve processes, efficiency, and financial performance
Additional Responsibilities
- Support the Director of Finance in managing all financial aspects of the hotel’s operations
- Ensure adherence to Four Seasons policies, standards of conduct, and internal procedures
- Perform other duties as required to support the Finance function
Who You Are
- Bachelor’s degree, preferably in Accounting or Finance
- Exceptions subject to approval by Senior Vice President, Operations Finance
- 3–5 years of relevant experience in a similar role within Four Seasons or a comparable organisation
- Experience in a hotel or resort environment preferred
- Proven leadership capability within a hotel or resort environment
- High level of integrity, professionalism, and transparency
- Strong interpersonal and stakeholder management skills, with the ability to collaborate cross-functionally and influence outcomes
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills in Japanese, with the ability to present reports and facilitate meetings effectively
- Ability to foster a continuous learning environment and support team development
- Demonstrates sound judgement and applies ethical decision-making in all situations
- Acts as a role model by upholding strong business conduct and ethical standards
- Committed to continuous self-improvement and developing others
- Able to work in a structured, organised, and detail-oriented manner
- Solid technical knowledge of generally accepted accounting principles (GAAP), as well as Four Seasons internal controls, policies, and procedures
- Working knowledge across Accounting, Purchasing, and Food & Beverage control functions
- Strong systems proficiency, including Microsoft Excel and general computer applications
- Familiarity with systems such as Sun, iScala, and Opera is advantageous
