A Brief Overview
The Financial Navigator plays a crucial role in providing financial assistance education to patients. This position is involved collaborating with healthcare providers to help patients navigate their insurance options and access necessary financial resources, ensuring they receive optimal care despite financial burdens. Under direction, responsible for mentoring patients through the self-pay process to bring account balances to final resolution. This responsibility includes evaluating patient financial situations in order to arrange appropriate methods of account resolution. To include collecting payment in full, payment plans and screening uninsured patients for Financial Assistance, Medicaid, Market Place, Cobra or other insurance programs. This position will generate price estimates, answer questions about open enrollment, in network insurance, out of network insurance and explain the overall health care financial process to patients. These activities are completed following established policies and procedures, and in compliance with Joint Commission, Medicare, Payer contracts, HIPAA, regulatory agencies and the organization's Code of Conduct.
Education Qualifications
- High School Diploma / GED Required
Experience Qualifications
- 2 years Experience in the clinical or business area that this role supports. Required
- 1 year Understanding of medical billing, insurance policies, and financial assistance programs. Preferred

What you will do
- Identify patient financial needs and finding solutions for them.
- Assist patients in analyzing and signing up for the best health insurance options based on their health concerns and financial situations.
- Identifying programs or resources that support the navigation of patients through complex healthcare environments for optimization of care and outcomes.
- Maintain a detailed understanding of healthcare insurance policies, drug information, medical benefits, medical terminology, and pharmacy benefits.
- Serves as a liaison between department staff, patients and physicians.
- Estimates patient liability on accounts. Counsels’ patient on the cost of treatment, insurance benefits, resources for payment, and financial assistance. Secures and documents payment arrangements.
- Maintain detailed records to measure effectiveness of program and suggest ways to improve throughout the process.
- Provides assistance to any staff member where priorities have been assigned by immediate supervisor.
- Organizes, formulates and coordinates a team approach to the patient population for achievement of optimum outcomes.
- Coordinate and communicate patient updates to care teams to optimize patient outcomes.
