A Brief Overview
Stormont Vail Health's Student Internship Program is designed for students entering their senior year of an accredited bachelor's degree program. This experience provides an opportunity to apply academic knowledge in a real-world setting, contribute to impactful projects, and gain exposure to professional environments. Interns will work closely with experienced professionals and receive mentorship throughout the program. The Acute-Care Operations Intern will develop a hybrid-model approach to ensure adequate staffing of multiple nursing departments. Qualitative and quantitative data will be utilized to establish best-practices and predict adequate coverage of essential nursing staff. This role will ultimately be responsible for managing and coordinating assignments to ensure optimal patient flow and resource utilization.
Education Qualifications
- Currently enrolled in a Bachelor’s degree program at an accredited college or university in related field. Required
- Completion of at least junior-level coursework (typically 90 credit hours or equivalent). Required
Experience Qualifications
- Coursework or experience in Business, Healthcare, Finance, Data Analytics or a related field Preferred

What you will do
- The Intern will support departmental operations through administrative, analytical, and project-based task. This internship provides hands-on experience in a healthcare setting, offering exposure to hospital workflows, patient services, and interdepartmental collaboration.
- Develop process to optimize staffing and scheduling practices throughout multiple nursing departments.
- Optimize utilization of the workforce management system (Shift Wizard) to allow efficient/timely decision making and accurate reporting.
- Collaborate with Command Center Manager, RN House Supervisors, Department Directors/Managers/Charge Nurses, and other leaders to predict daily staffing needs.
- Recommend a primary point of contact for scheduling inquiries, shift changes, and staffing adjustments.
- Monitor and analyze staffing levels to ensure adherence to productivity guidelines.
- Uphold patient confidentiality and comply with HIPAA regulations.
- Participate in meetings and contribute to ongoing initiatives.
- Contribute to department-specific projects and initiatives.
- Conduct research, analyze data, and assist in developing reports or presentations.
- Participate in department meetings and contribute to ongoing initiatives.
- Present a final project or summary of contributions at the end of the internship.
- Utilize workforce management systems to track staffing metrics and generate reports.
- Other duties as assigned.
