Position Summary:
The School of Communication and Multimedia Studies (SCMS) in the Dorothy F. Schmidt College of Arts and Letters at Florida Atlantic University invites applications for a nine-month Non-Tenure Track Instructor and Coordinator in Digital Film and Media to begin August 2026. The primary location is the Boca Raton campus, with occasional travel to the Fort Lauderdale campus.
This hybrid position combines a 2/2 teaching load in Multimedia Film and Media with coordination and oversight of audiovisual systems, production infrastructure, and equipment resources supporting SCMS instructional and creative spaces. The remaining effort beyond teaching is dedicated to technical coordination, AV system management, equipment oversight, and support of shared production environments, including limited collaboration with Theatre and Dance.
The ideal candidate will demonstrate expertise in film and media studies and/or digital film production, including proficiency with digital cinema cameras, audio recording systems, lighting and grip equipment, and post-production workflows, alongside strong technical troubleshooting and coordination skills.

Summary of Responsibilities
1. Instructional Responsibilities
• Teach a minimum of two (2) undergraduate and/or graduate-level film and media courses per semester (Fall/Spring), with potential summer teaching based on program need and budgetary approval.
• Courses may include film/media studies, digital film production, cinematography, audio production, lighting design, post-production, or media technology.
• Maintain currency in emerging production technologies and industry standards.
• Mentor students in hands-on studio and field production environments.
• Support SCMS experiential learning initiatives.
2. Technical & Coordination Responsibilities
• Coordinate installation, maintenance, and troubleshooting of audiovisual (AV) systems in classrooms, studios, media labs, screening rooms/theaters, projection booths, and production spaces.
• Oversee and maintain digital film production equipment, including cameras, lenses, audio recorders, microphones, lighting kits, grip equipment, and editing workstations.
• Perform installation, configuration, and replacement of equipment and technological resources.
• Implement and document system test plans during AV installations.
• Manage and coordinate external AV vendors to ensure system specifications and performance standards are met.
• Maintain accurate and up-to-date technical documentation for AV and production systems.
• Troubleshoot PC and Mac-based production systems and software.
• Interpret and follow signal flow diagrams.
• Terminate cables in the field (Category cable, SDI; soldering preferred).
• Organize and maintain equipment inventory systems using platforms such as Excel, Snipe-IT, Asset Tiger, or similar tools.
• Enforce equipment usage policies and best practices.
• Manage equipment and technological resource assets for students, staff, and faculty.
• Collaborate with Theatre and Dance on live and studio production environments as needed.
• Ability to lift 25 pounds.
Minimum Qualifications:
- Earned Master’s degree from an accredited institution in Film, Media, Digital Media, Communication, or a closely related field by August 2026.Salary:
