A Brief Overview
Under the general direction of the Chief Nursing Officer and Directors of Nursing, the House Supervisor is responsible for facilitating PCS departmental operations through the coordination and supervision of direct patient care on all nursing units. This individual assists in the appropriate allocation of nursing personnel on a daily basis to meet patient care requirements in collaboration with the PCS directors, managers and charge nurses. The House Supervisor makes decisions independently in areas of responsibility based on Administrative and Departmental operational standards and coordinates Hospital operations in the absence of Department Directors in consultation with the PCS Directors and other Departmental Directors as needed. This position will coordinate the placement of all admissions (elective and emergent) and transfer in accordance with the clinical standards and guidelines. This position will also be responsible for ensuring the patient is admitted to the most appropriate bed available using criteria for admission, and determining if the patient is a candidate for observation or inpatient status. The delivery of professional nursing care at Stormont Vail Health is guided by Jean Watson's Theory of Human Caring and the theory of Shared governance, both of which are congruent with the mission, vision, and values of the organization.
Education Qualifications
Bachelor's of Science in Nursing Preferred
Experience Qualifications
5 years Clinical practice experience. Required
Previous management experience in clinical nursing within the hospital environment or Charge Nurse experience. Preferred
Skills and Abilities
Ability to communicate effectively using verbal, non-verbal and written methods. (Required proficiency)
Ability to perform mathematical calculations related to medication administration and equipment calibration. Ability to work with mathematical concepts such as probability and statistical inference, and fundamentals of plane and solid geometry and trigonometry. Ability to apply concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios, and proportions to practical situations. (Required proficiency)
Ability to identify, assess and resolve problems. (Required proficiency)
Demonstrate diverse clinical knowledge regarding patient care needs. (Required proficiency)
Demonstrates knowledge of the Kansas State Nurse Practice Act and follows the statutes and regulations therein. (Required proficiency)
Licenses and Certifications
Registered Nurse - KSBN Additional certification may be required for certain patient care settings or populations. The department director will provide specific information and the timeframe in which such certification must be attained at the time of hire/transfer into department. Required
What you will do
Provides supervision to Rapid Response Team on a shift basis. Assist in determining staffing needs; responsible for staffing decisions. Monitor compliance to hospital policies, rules, regulations, and document noncompliance to appropriate personnel.
Respond to situations involving patients, departments, staff and visitors to provide a resolution.
Identify and evaluate bed availability in all patient care departments.
Communicate and coordinate with the Directors and charge nurses to ensure that all shifts have standardized admission, discharge, and transfer procedures. Communicate with the emergency department frequently to prevent a backup of admissions and to put into place procedures that might stop a backlog (i.e. Diversion).
Initiate new concepts, approaches, and procedures in the placement of patients to facilitate their admission process.
Delegates tasks and duties in the direction and coordination of health care team members, patient care and department activities in accordance with the Kansas State Nurse Practice Act.
