Job Summary
Summary<br>Responsible for assisting optometrists and ophthalmologists in providing quality eye care services to patients by performing a range of administrative, clinical, and technical duties to ensure efficient operations and excellent patient experiences within the eye care department.<br><br>Does this position require Patient Care?<br>Yes<br><br>Essential Functions<br>-Greet and prepare patients for their eye examinations, including documenting medical history, medications, and chief complaints. <br>
-Conduct initial vision and eye health assessments, such as visual acuity, auto-refraction, and non-contact tonometry, to gather baseline information for the optometrist. <br>
-Perform specialized tests under the direction of the optometrist, such as visual field testing, retinal imaging, corneal topography, and fundus photography. <br>
-Assist patients with contact lens insertion, removal, and care instructions. <br>
-Educate patients on proper contact lens hygiene. <br>
-Ensure the cleanliness and proper functioning of diagnostic and examination equipment. <br>
-Provide patients with information about eye conditions, treatment plans, and preventive measures as directed by the optometrist. <br>
-Assist the optometrist during minor procedures, such as foreign body removal or tonometry, by handing instruments and offering patient comfort. <br>
Education High School Diploma or Equivalent required Can this role accept experience in lieu of a degree? No Licenses and Credentials Experience Optometry/Ophthalmology Experience 1-2 years preferred Knowledge, Skills and Abilities - Proficiency in performing various eye-related tests and using diagnostic equipment. - Familiarity with electronic health records (EHR) systems is desirable. - Excellent verbal and written communication skills to interact effectively with patients and colleagues. - Strong customer service skills to provide a welcoming and compassionate environment for patients. - Keen attention to detail when recording patient information, performing tests, and assisting with procedures. - Willingness to work collaboratively in a team-based healthcare setting.
