Full-time position, 5-8hr shifts, Mon-Fri

The Center for Laryngeal Surgery and Voice Rehabilitation at the Massachusetts General Hospital (MGH Voice Center) is internationally recognized as a leader in the development of innovative surgical approaches for treating laryngeal and upper airway disorders/diseases (e.g., laryngeal cancer, dysplasia, vocal cord paralysis, stenosis, and benign vocal cord lesions in elite singers and speakers etc.) and for the interdisciplinary management of voice disorders.

The Center’s 12,000 sq. ft. outpatient facility is located three blocks from the main MGH campus. It has state-of-the-art facilities for the endoscopic assessment of the larynx and upper airway with highly specialized capabilities for office-based laser treatment and injection procedures. A major specialty of the Center is the unique methods of treating routine and complex voice and airway problems that were innovated and perfected by the Voice Center staff. Patients travel to the MGH Voice Center from throughout the United States and abroad, as well as locally and regionally. The Center also maintains a well-funded (NIH and 501(c)(3) Charitable Foundations) research program that is continuously contributing to advancing clinical care.

The APP will play a key role in outpatient care, including taking and documenting case histories and the results of office examinations, performing transoral and trans-nasal endoscopies of the upper airway and larynx in the outpatient clinic, assisting with outpatient surgical procedures, and writing post-procedural orders, including prescriptions, etc. The APP will also play a secondary role in hospital bedside consultations and assist with surgeries in the operating room.

This is a high-volume clinic: 80% in clinic (procedural & consultations) 20% OR-First Assist. Potential growth opportunity with significant opportunity for autonomy

Qualifications:
• 2yrs APP experience, required
• PA or NP-First Assist, strongly preferred


 

Job Summary

Summary
The Physician Assistant (PA) is a licensed provider. The PA is responsible for the assessment and management of various populations of patients, medical and/or surgical, including diagnostic and therapeutic interventions, development of appropriate plans of care and ongoing evaluation. May also perform additional duties, such as precepting a small group of learners.

Essential Functions
-Provides direct care, counseling, and teaching to a designated patient population in the ambulatory, inpatient, operative, and/or procedural setting.
-Performs complete histories and physical examinations.
-Orders, interprets, and evaluates appropriate laboratory and diagnostic tests.
-Develops appropriate plans of care and follow-up based on the outcomes of diagnostic, laboratory, and physical examination findings.
-Orders medications and writes prescriptions according to organizational and regulatory policies and procedures.
-Consistently provides high quality and timely documentation including admission and progress notes, procedure notes, operative notes and discharge summaries.
-Performs bedside procedures as are appropriate to the patient population.
