Job Summary

Summary

The Dhand Lab is seeking candidates for a Paid Student Research Position. This will be a minimum of 10 hours/week. This position is supported by a R01 grant to study a novel wearable to detect social interactions after stroke called SocialBit, or the Time Is Brain study, also supported by an R01 grant. Ideally, this will be a 6 month co-op followed by a part-time employment offer contingent on availability and performance.

The ideal candidate is an undergraduate student in health sciences, social science, public health or computer science. The responsibilities will be to code social interactions during hospitalization and inpatient rehabilitation after stroke and analyze data. The student will also learn about post-stroke care, social determinants of health, and network science.

Opportunities will include authorship, mentorship on grant and fellowship applications, working at Brigham and Women’s Hospital/Harvard Medical School on a multidisciplinary team, and involvement in additional projects. This position will also require periodic travel to ‘off-site’ locations in Cambridge (Partners Healthcare Office) and Spaulding Rehab Center. Each is accessible by the free Mass General Brigham shuttle system.

This is a department-based internship. Incumbent receives academic credit in accordance with school and internship guidelines. Internship provides hands-on learning experience.

Essential Functions

- Speak directly with potentially interested participants to explain the study and ask a series of questions that will help determine initial eligibility.
- Obtain medical record release forms and medical records from potential participants, following up as necessary.
- Communicate with the MD reviewing records each week and maintain documentation in the recruitment tracking system.
- Administer tests that assess function and other neurological abilities.
- Code the “ground truth” of social interactions in the hospital room
- Enter data into a recruitment registry regarding participant screening on REDCap.
- Maintain a recruitment registry.
- Assist study doctors and outreach specialists as needed.
- Other duties as requested.
