GENERAL SUMMARY/ OVERVIEW STATEMENT:

The Sleep, Cognition and Neuropsychiatry (SCAN) Lab in the Department of Psychiatry at MGH is seeking a Clinical Research Coordinator (CRC). The CRC will assist with ongoing studies investigating the neural basis and nature of cognitive deficits in neuropsychiatric disorders. The primary line of investigation focuses on the contribution of abnormal sleep to impaired memory consolidation in schizophrenia and autism.

The CRC will work closely with the Principal Investigator, research fellows, lab mates, and collaborators on all aspects of the research projects. The techniques employed include polysomnography (sleep electroencephalography), electroencephalography (EEG), and functional and structural magnetic resonance imaging (MRI). Training in data acquisition and analysis will be provided. A mentored research project is encouraged.

The candidate must be mature and responsible with excellent organizational, interpersonal as well as oral and written communication skills. They must be able to work independently in a fast-paced environment, juggle and prioritize multiple tasks, feel comfortable working with clinical and non-clinical study populations, work effectively as part of a team, and seek assistance when appropriate. Additionally, the candidate must have a flexible schedule and be willing to conduct overnight sleep studies. A two-year commitment is preferred.


PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES MAY INCLUDE:
- Recruit, assess, and schedule subjects for participation
- Conduct EEG monitored daytime nap studies in the lab
- Conduct ERP and MRI scanning studies
- Coordinate and support home-based sleep studies using wearable EEG devices
- Maintain subject information database using REDCap or other data capture programs
- Perform quality assurance checks on databases and oversee data integrity
- Assist with data processing and analysis, and manuscript preparation
- Perform administrative support duties as required
- Supervise undergraduate research assistants


 

Job Summary

Following established policies, procedures, and study protocols, provides assistance on clinical research studies, including recruiting, evaluating, and consenting patients for studies; collecting and organizing patient data; scheduling patients for study visits; performing clinical tests such as phlebotomy, EKGs, etc.; and maintaining and updating data generated by the study. Candidates who are in the process of completing their bachelor's degree have a six-month grace period from their hire date (up to one year if starting on a per diem basis) to provide degree equivalency verification.

-Reviews proposals for compliance with sponsor and organizational guidelines; verifies that all sponsor requirements are met.

-Recruiting patients for clinical trials and conducting phone interviews.

-Verifies the accuracy of study forms and updates them per protocol.

-Prepares data for analysis and data entry.

-Documents patient visits and procedures.

-Assists with regulatory binders and QA/QC Procedures.

-Assists with interviewing study subjects.

-Assists with study regulator submissions.


 

Qualifications

Education
Bachelor's Degree required

Experience
Some relevant research project work 0-1 year preferred

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

- Exceptional organizational skills and attention to detail
- Technical aptitude and comfort with troubleshooting
- Excellent knowledge of computerized data processing (word processing, spreadsheets, and databases)

- Strong interpersonal skills required for interaction with subjects and lab mates
- Ability to demonstrate respect and professionalism for subjects’ rights and individual needs
