Job Summary and Responsibilities

 

Franciscan Medical Group, part of Virginia Mason Franciscan Health, is currently seeking a full time Vascular Technologist, Lead  for our Franciscan Vascular Associates in Tacoma, WA. Full time Vascular Tech in our very busy and fast paced department. We have a team basedenvironment in a growing vascular service line wich includes 26 techs and 5 vascular surgeons. We are a strong team based environment in a service that continues to grow. No weekends or organizationally recognized holidays required! 

 

Job Summary:

Performs diagnostic non-invasive testing procedures to provide the essential information regarding the blood supply to and from the tissues of the extremities and the vital organs of the body, and the degree and character of any obstruction under the direction of a licensed physician.   Work includes but is not limited to (1) reviewing and/or recording pertinent patient history and supporting clinical data; (2) preparing patients for testing (3) performing appropriate clinical procedures and obtaining a record of anatomical, pathological, and/or physiological data for interpretation by a physician; (4) compiling a foundation of data that is interpreted by physicians in order to make a correct anatomic, physiologic, and pathologic diagnosis for each patient.

Incumbents are also accountable for; keeping abreast of FHS standards, protocols and procedures relating to the department; keeping skills current; demonstrating evidence of continuing education to include department meetings, individualized learning opportunities from Physicians and related classes.

 

The nature of “lead” responsibilities may vary slightly depending on the core job, but generally involves exercising limited supervision over a group of employees that are typically classified in the same core job family.  An incumbent performs much the same work as others in the job family, participating in the day-to-day operations of the work unit, with “lead” work comprising a relatively minor portion of the overall job.  The work requires knowledge of the policies, procedures and equipment applicable to the work unit at appointment.

 

Essential Duties:

  • Prepares patient/operates ultrasound equipment and employs techniques/procedures to ensure results are consistent and capture the correct detail of a requested area, per physicians’ direction and in adherence to department protocols.
  • Delivers patient care for all age groups while performing vascular examinations.
  • Prepares and maintains clinical documentation.
  • Performs incidental general office duties to include answering phone, scheduling and filing.

 

Lead Job Duties  

Note:  Incumbents may not perform all of the representative examples of “lead” job duties below, but they must perform a number of them to warrant classification as a “lead”.

  • Monitors and adjusts patient flow to minimize wait-time; identifies excessive volumes and makes arrangements for increased staff.
  • Serves as a resource to staff on the protocols of the vascular equipment and responsible for the maintenance of such equipment.
  • Provides on-the-job training and mentoring to new or lower-level employees; prepares work schedules and reviews work to ensure it meets quality and productivity standards; educates staff on magnet safety and practice; identifies training needs and advises higher-level authority.
  • Monitors individual staff performance and provides feedback to higher-level authority; coaches employees on procedures and protocols; may provide input into formal employee performance evaluations.
  • Maintains level of supplies and orders supplies as needed.

Job Requirements

Education/Experience:

  • Completion of a training program accredited by the American Medical Association – Committee on Allied Health Education (AMA-CAHEA) for vascular ultrasound, and and one year of post-graduate experience in vascular ultrasound and/or demonstrated high degree of proficiency, knowledge, and acuity in the field of diagnostics or ultrasound.

License/Certification:

  • Current registration as a Registered Vascular Technologist (RVT) through the American Registry of Diagnostic Medical Sonographers OR obtained within one (1) year of placement in position.
  • Current Healthcare Provider BLS certification.
