What you will do: 

Johnson Controls invites you to apply for an internship located in Capitol Heights, MD. This internship is designed to provide you with a positive work/training experience and challenging objectives. This role will be part of our Controls System Engineer team responsible for hardware design and software programming for HVAC control systems. Specific identified internship responsibilities are outlined below.  

 

How you will do it:    

  • Operate under direct supervision from local Controls System team 

  • Selects hardware designs from standard design library for flow diagrams, sequence of operations, bill material, network layouts and electrical schematics as required 

  • Performs software programming using established standards as basis of design 

  • Coordinates the creation of necessary drawings and equipment schedules for submittals and installation  

  • Selects, orders and tracks the delivery of materials for assigned projects. Coordinates factory – mounting processes to meet factory and project schedule  

  • Completes paperwork including but not limited to time sheets, expense reports, and on-site documentation 

  • Adheres to safety standards. High degree of regard to employee and subcontractor safety  

   

Duration:  

This will be a full-time summer 2026 internship with the term determined based on the candidate’s availability. 

 

What we look for 

Required Qualifications:   

  • Currently enrolled as a full-time student at an accredited U.S. college or university  

  • Pursuing a degree an engineering degree or equivalent  

  • Currently a Junior or Senior status   

 

Preferred Qualifications:    

  • Demonstrates an ability to learn quickly and independently  

  • Strong communication skills (verbal and written) preferred   

  • Demonstrated problem solving skills required 

  • Ability to work effectively in a high energetic and multiple-engagement environment, dedication to teamwork, a strong work initiative, and the ability to adapt to new challenges and ideas. 

  • Experience with installing and/or commissioning controls systems including system-level controllers – or – experience designing or evaluating mechanical/electrical building systems or control systems 

HIRING HOURLY RANGE: $19.00 - $24.00 (Hourly rate to be determined by the education, experience, knowledge, skills, and abilities of the applicant, internal equity, location and alignment with market data.)
