About Department 321 - Quality Inspection

Department 321 is the last line of defense to ensure the most advanced military weapons are built and maintained to the quality standards of the NAVY so they can safely defend this country's freedom.

 

Role Overview 

The successful candidate(s) will join the newly formed Health and Wellness of Quality (HAWQ) team in Groton.In this exciting role, the successful applicant will be a driver of excellence within the Quality Organizations by building an atmosphere of trust and confidence through mentoring and coaching within the inspection teams.

 

Key Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  • Verifying safe work conditions for all employees
  • Mentoring and coaching inspectors to improve proficiency within the quality organization
  • Oversight and Surveillance of QP, Focus Factory and Groton Quality Organizations, including vendors as required
  • Occasional travel to Focus Factories
  • Ensuring that all NAVSEA and Electric Boat policies and procedures are adhered to

 

Skills

  • Knowledge of Quality Assurance documents and processes 
  • Ability to cultivate and contribute to a positive team culture
  • Ability to work at heights, tightly confined spaces, walk up and down staging throughout the day, and in extreme weather conditions
  • Strong computer skills including proficiency in MS Office, excel specifically
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills are required to ensure effective interface with a variety of organizations
  • Strong organizational, analytical, and problem-solving skills in order to evaluate situations, make recommendations, and take prompt and effective action.
  • Applicant should have the interpersonal and communication skills necessary to investigate problems by effectively asking questions, extracting necessary data from available sources, and working with others to determine root causes and implement appropriate solutions.  

Qualifications

Required 

  • High School Diploma or GED
  • Current Level II certification in at least one NDT method, including any of the following: MT, PT, UT, or RT
  • 3+ years' experience in NDT inspection and/or quality at EB or outside of EB
  • Previous Electric Boat surface or volumetric inspection experience
  • Experience interpreting technical manuals, shipyard procedures, test documents, blueprints, and diagrams
  • Willingness to work extended shifts, weekends and light support business related travel
  • Must be available to work all shifts as needed

Preferred

  • Knowledge of shipboard assemblies, installations, components, and structures
  • Current or previous Level II ceritfications in multiple NDT methods, including any of the following: MT, PT, UT, or RT
