Where the $100K+ U.S. Jobs Are — May 2026
We pulled active U.S. listings from across our inventory of 3.5M+ jobs and zeroed in on the segment that matters most to professionals: roles paying $100K+ on average. Pharma, healthcare systems, government, and HR consulting lead the high-paying large-volume employers. By function, IT, Consulting, and Engineering still own the highest pay bands.
Top high-paying large employers
The five large-volume employers (900+ active U.S. roles) with the highest average disclosed maximum salary. These are the firms combining real hiring scale with white-collar pay levels:
| Employer | Active U.S. roles | Avg max | Sector |
|---|---|---|---|
| Behavioral Health Practice Services | 1,172 | $203K | Physician/clinician network |
| AbbVie | 1,233 | $120K | Pharmaceuticals |
| Johnson & Johnson | 925 | $110K | Pharma + medical devices |
| GlobalHR | 1,886 | $104K | Talent / HR services |
| City of New York | 1,241 | $103K | Government / municipal |
Behavioral Health Practice Services tops the list because most of its postings are licensed-physician and clinical-director roles — a useful reminder that "highest average" can reflect role-mix more than typical compensation. AbbVie and Johnson & Johnson sit at ~$110-120K average max across thousands of varied openings, a cleaner read on broad-based white-collar pay.
Top functions by average pay
The functions where average mid-salary sits in the upper-middle professional band and above ($70K+):
| Function | Active U.S. roles | Avg mid-salary |
|---|---|---|
| Information Technology | 1,078 | $110K |
| Consulting | 832 | $104K |
| Engineering | 1,572 | $103K |
| Human Resources | 535 | $89K |
| Science | 465 | $86K |
| Marketing | 1,061 | $84K |
| Management | 985 | $71K |
| Sales | 2,479 | $71K |
Three functions sit cleanly above $100K average midpoint: Information Technology ($110K), Consulting ($104K), and Engineering ($103K). These are the categories that consistently attract the most competitive candidate pools and where salary transparency is most often expected.
White-collar industries with the most hiring
Industries with strong professional-pay characteristics and active hiring across multiple employers right now:
| Industry | Distinct companies | Active U.S. roles |
|---|---|---|
| Pharmaceuticals | 14 | 1,441 |
| Government Administration | 12 | 1,391 |
| Computer Software | 44 | 498 |
| Financial Services | 36 | 351 |
| Information Technology & Services | 78 | 567 |
Pharmaceuticals stands out: 14 distinct companies hiring across 1,441 active U.S. roles — concentrated but consistently paying at professional levels. Computer Software and IT Services together account for 122 distinct companies hiring right now, even though per-employer role counts are lower than legacy sectors — the tech market favors smaller, more frequent hiring across more firms.
What this means for your search
- If you're targeting $100K+ roles: focus your search on Information Technology, Consulting, or Engineering functions. These three functions average above $100K and have broad employer diversity.
- If pharma is in your background: AbbVie and J&J are both in active large-scale hiring at $109-120K average max ranges. The sector has the most concentrated white-collar hiring scale in the dataset.
- If you're location-flexible: see our city-by-city engineering salary breakdown for where the highest-paying tech roles are being posted.
- If you care about pay transparency: see our salary transparency report — only 2.4% of U.S. listings publish a range, and most of the big-brand employers in this article disclose zero.
A note on the broader hiring pool
