As a Mechanical QCx Engineer with LotusWorks, you will play a critical role in supporting the commissioning and verification of mechanical systems throughout all QCx levels. You will assist in testing, documentation, and troubleshooting to ensure all systems meet design intent, performance criteria, and compliance standards. This position requires close collaboration with vendors, project managers, and cross-discipline engineering teams to deliver high-quality and fully functional systems.

Responsibilities:

General QCx Support

  • Participate and support the QCx process through Levels 1 – 3 of the project scope.
  • Assist with vendor coordination and documentation management.
  • Review design specifications, manufacturer submittals, and one-line drawings for accuracy and compliance.
  • Confirm that equipment and systems are installed per project design and local/national codes.
  • Record and track non-conformance items and punch-list resolutions.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to maintain communication throughout the QCx process.
  • Maintain an understanding of LEED specifications and sustainability objectives.

Discipline Leadership

  • Lead and coordinate all QCx activities for the Mechanical discipline.
  • Manage priorities and schedules to align with project milestones.
  • Participate in progress meetings to communicate equipment readiness and testing status.
  • Ensure system integration across Electrical, Controls, and Process disciplines.

Planning & Coordination

  • Review design documents, commissioning plans, and mechanical equipment specifications.
  • Develop and maintain commissioning schedules in coordination with the project timeline.
  • Interface with design engineers, project managers, contractors, and vendors.
  • Track commissioning progress and provide status reports.

Mechanical Systems Commissioning

  • Support Level 1 – 3 commissioning on systems including HVAC, compressed air, chilled water, cooling water, fire suppression, and hydraulic/pneumatic networks.
  • Verify system performance against design and operational criteria.
  • Participate in Functional Performance Testing (FPT) for equipment such as chillers, pumps, and heat exchangers.

Testing & Documentation

  • Support vendors and trade partners during FPT activities.
  • Record test data, deviations, and corrective actions.
  • Develop and maintain comprehensive commissioning documentation, including test reports, turnover packages, and punch lists.

Troubleshooting & Issue Resolution

  • Identify and resolve system issues during startup and testing.
  • Perform root-cause analysis and drive corrective actions with vendors and trade partners.
  • Support resolution of installation or performance deficiencies.

Quality, Safety & Compliance

  • Ensure compliance with OSHA, ASHRAE, NFPA, and project-specific standards.
  • Verify that installations meet project specifications and safety requirements.
  • Enforce safe work practices in accordance with the Project EHS Plan.
  • Confirm that systems remain de-energized until safety testing is completed and documented.
  • Any other duties or responsibilities that may be assigned to you in your role.   

Skills Required:

  • Mechanical Systems Knowledge – Solid understanding of HVAC, compressed air, chilled water, and fire suppression systems.
  • Commissioning Fundamentals – Knowledge of QCx Levels 1–3 processes including FAT, PFC, and FPT.
  • Technical Documentation – Proficiency in reviewing design specs, equipment submittals, and system drawings.
  • Testing & Analysis – Ability to record, interpret, and analyze system test data accurately.
  • Troubleshooting Skills – Capable of diagnosing equipment performance issues and supporting resolution.
  • Team Collaboration – Works effectively across mechanical, electrical, and controls disciplines.
  • Project Coordination – Organized approach to task tracking, prioritization, and deadline management.
  • Quality & Safety Focus – Knowledge of OSHA, ASHRAE, and NFPA standards, ensuring safe and compliant work practices.
  • Software Proficiency – Experience using CMMS tools (Maximo), Microsoft Office Suite, and commissioning software.
  • Communication – Strong written and verbal communication skills for reporting and team coordination.

 

Education / Licenses / Certifications:

  • Technical degree required; Associate or higher in Mechanical Engineering or a related technical discipline (preferred).
  • 2+ years experience in a mechanical, quality, or commissioning environment required.
  • Industry certifications such as OSHA 30, LEED, QA/QC, or commissioning training preferred.
  • Proof of education, licenses, and certifications will be required where applicable.
