JOB DESCRIPTION SUMMARY

The Skills Up, Step Forward Career Skills Coach will work with youth enrolled in MCC's Credential College to support them in gaining and retaining employment through individualized coaching, career planning, job readiness training, and on-site support.

ESSENTIAL POSITION FUNCTIONS:

  • Provide educational, employment, and supportive services for program participants.
  • Develops individualized education and employment plans by coordinating the assessment of student participants’ educational and career goals, skills, experience, and needs; provide educational and career advising and assist students with the development of resumes, cover letters, and application material.
  • Conducts regular outreach efforts and attends activities that include classroom presentations, information sessions, career fairs, and other events.
  • Stay up to date with labor market trends and industry needs
  • Establishes and maintains effective working relationships with clients, community workforce development organizations, human service agency partners, and college personnel.
  • Coordinates referrals to/from internal and external partners and college resources to assist students n s and address students’ supportive service needs, as appropriate..
  • Maintains accurate records and documentation of student progress, employer contacts, and placement outcomes.
  • Complete reports monthly, quarterly, and annually on participant completion.
  • Consistently and dependably attends work, activities, and functions as scheduled or assigned.
  • Related duties, as assigned.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:

  • Knowledge of student support services and career development practices.
  • Strong computer and analytical skills.
  • Effective verbal and written communications skills.
  • Skilled in human relations and diplomacy.
  • Ability to communicate, effectively work and interact with a diverse population.
  • Ability to maintain accurate records and pay close attention to detail.
  • Ability to work well with minimal supervision in a team-oriented environment.
  • Ability to maintain professionalism, cooperation, patience and understand in stressful situations.
  • Ability to effectively work and interact with various cultures and ethnicities.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS FOR EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:

  • Bachelor’s Degree or equivalent.
  • Three (3) years of full-time work-related work experience in advising, coaching, case management and/or counseling, preferably in higher education.
  • Equivalent combination of education and/or related work experience considered.
  • Ability to travel between campuses for meetings or staffing coverage.
  • Must pass a background check.
